S.I.L.A.H.A. is an Aeormaton sorcerer/warlock played by Abubakar Salim in Downfall. He is a mortal avatar of the god Corellon, the Arch Heart.

Description[]

Appearance[]

SILAHA is beautiful, with a dark frame that is difficult to see where it begins and ends, like a painting sprinkled with golden freckles that occasionally move, and orange eyes that occasionally glow green. He holds himself regally, and moves more fluidly when he is among friends.[3]

As the Chosen One, the golden freckles cover his whole body, and his eyes turn green.[4]

Personality[]

He is a charismatic and socially savvy individual, well respected. He is vain, hedonistic, and enjoys attention and beauty in every form, but deep down he's sorrowful because of the knowledge that his godly self, the Arch Heart, is directly responsible for Aeor being so advanced and dangerous, causing the Aeormaton to even contemplate the possibility of giving up existence.

Biography[]

Background[]

After the main Exandrian pantheon agreed to collaborate in a plan to neutralize Aeor and their potentially dangerous technology, the Arch Heart agreed to do their part. However, even though it had been agreed that Ioun would act as a scout in the flying city, Corellon was curious about it too, so for their mortal incarnation they arrived in "shapeable form" as an Aeormaton being created there by Primarch Selena Erenves, in a way that allowed the god to bypass the normal Aeorian defenses against divinity. As SILAHA, he lived there for three decades, enjoying the culture and whatever he deemed beautiful, while climbing socially and becoming a respected and well connected figure thanks to the high researcher that had created his body. Eventually he met Arcadia Cerenvetorix (the mortal incarnation of Ioun).[5] At some point during his time in the city he created a secret place of his own, the Ars Elysia, where he and others could indulge in beauty and pleasure. He created a new persona there, "the Chosen One", and through their adoration, he became stronger, and the secret tavern became a sacred place for him (even though such activities were explicitly against the divine plans).[6]

"Downfall: Part One" (3x99)[]

After Arcadia sent visions to the other mortal avatars, SILAHA traveled in the Venatoria to Hawk's Hill, and there he played his part announcing to the people living there who could be accepted as refugees in the flying city. He found Trist, Ayden, Asha, and Emhira (the mortal incarnations of Raei, Pelor, Melora, and the Raven Queen), and after giving them some amulets welcomed them into the ship, along with a crate of apples; before they took off he telepathically scolded Ayden for risking his cover using divine magic near the Aeorians. During the flight the incarnated deities opened the crate, revealing The Emissary, a genasi agent sent by Erathis; Asha, clearly disappointed because she expected a mortal incarnation of her lover, went to a corner and turned into a timber wolf, curling until SILAHA reminded her that it wasn't the time for sulking, after which he sent the Emissary back into the crate, so they wouldn't find him. After they crossed the Latimus Princeps (a barrier to keep gods outside) successfully thanks to the amulets, some Aeorian corporals started checking the wagons and crates. SILAHA quietly cast Dispel Magic to interfere with the process, and later summoned a Minor Illusion of a gnome to distract the guards.

After convincing Captain Marcus that he would take care of the crate and promising to speak well of him to Primarch Selena, the Aeormaton and his group took the Vermillion Line to move through the city of Aeor. As they were traveling he praised the city itself, explaining he had traveled there before he should to appreciate it better; he also told Emhira not to interact with a drunken guard, but she ignored him. They eventually arrived to the Chamber of Seasons, an extremely old and abandoned temple of Ioun where Arcadia was waiting for them, guiding them inside to meet four other people, incarnations of Betrayer Gods. They had a long and chaotic conversation about their goals in the city and their feelings about that world, during which Umleta the halfling (one of the incarnations of the Betrayers) teased SILAHA, and he told her that they would only team up if Emhira joined them. Eventually it was agreed that those three would indeed team up to infiltrate and gather information about the Eravox Protocol (the system by which Aeor could send information across Exandria during emergencies) and the potential presence of an angel visiting the Genesis Ward.

SILAHA being massaged - Sabira Langevin

Before SILAHA and his team left the temple he spoke with Umlata for a bit; they were cordial at first, but then started joking about selling the other's body parts to win money before the city's destruction. The Aeormaton, suspecting which god the halfling was incarnating, expressed that he didn't trust her, and she responded by pointing out that he (or his divine self) was the one that had given magic to mortals, so the current situation with Aeor was his fault. After that they went with Emhira to the Ars Ward, and he guided them to his secret tavern, the Ars Elysia, being immediately recognized by ZVX, the Aeormaton/door. Once inside SILAHA took his "Chosen One" appearance, and worship funneled into him as the patrons and staff greeted him, very excited. He guided his two teammates to a more private area, where 2R LON (an Aeormaton dancer) gave him wine and a massage; although Umleta went to gather information alone (after calling SILAHA a clown), Emhira stayed with him, and he tried to convince her that what Aeor was doing wasn't that bad. When the warlock pointed out that the Factorum Malleus could end the gods, he responded by explaining that beauty was always finite in one way or another, and that he himself was tired and would like to end. Emhira then told him that not every god felt the same way, convincing him to focus, and reminding him that he could create other places like the Ars Elysia wherever he wanted; although SILAHA thanked her for listening to him, as he observed how an Aeormaton proposed to her elven girlfriend, he realized he could not replicate the tavern with all its people. After that they spoke with the bartender, 4X 10MN, asking him about the rumors of a celestial visiting Aeor; thanks to him they realized that an angel was quietly drinking water near the bathroom, so SILAHA approached him. After exchanging some comments about the drinks, the planetar tried to leave, being Commanded to halt by the sorcerer; however, when SILAHA teased him by saying he had been a bad angel, the celestial warrior tried to flee again, resisting the Aeormaton's Hold Monster. Using some of his divine power in that sacred place, SILAHA shaped reality (drawing the attention of Corellon themself far away) to cause ZVX to appear and swallow the angel, sealing him inside a pocket plane, and scaring a bunch of barbed devils in the process.

Emhira and he went to interrogate the angel, Garathran, who was revealed to be a celestial of the Dawnfather following the solar Acastriel, being part of a group of divine servants frustrated with the gods and the Calamity itself. SILAHA, feeling the planetar's rage, tried to hug him and take his anger away, but that caused Garathran to get defensive. The Aeormaton tried to persuade him, telling him that, just like him, he sometimes felt unsure about his purpose, but promising that his mission in Aeor was righteous, and that after the Calamity, the gods would give their servants some order again; however, when he tried to redirect the conversation into an interrogation, Garathran killed himself with his own sword. Despite this, Emhira got from him the information they needed with her Speak with Dead spell, and shortly after the two of them started getting information through their Telepathic Bond, learning that some of the other avatars were fighting Aeorian forces. Using Emhira's raven familiar and her Arcane Gate spell they traveled to the battlefield, and immediately after SILAHA cast Dimension Door to bring both of them before the Scribe, an Aeormaton handling the information about the Factorum Malleus with many mechanical arms. SILAHA then used his Clockwork Cavalcade to deactivate those arms (as well as the Scribe) and absorb and metabolize the parchment and knowledge found there, containing "a poem so beautiful that it could convince reality to kill a god". Shortly after that they and their allies used Emhira's Arcane Gate to leave the place before the authorities arrived.

"Downfall: Part Three" (3x101)[]

In the extradimensional room in the Ars Elysia the gods tried to convince Cassida Previn, one of the archmages working in the Factorum Malleus, to listen to them and help them, despite the fact that the Betrayer Gods she opposed were in the same team as the Prime Deities. Meanwhile, SILAHA took a moment to enter his tavern, and seeing it was shaking because of the storm outside, used his powers to stabilize it with richly decorated mechanical supports, ordering the musicians to continue playing. When he returned with the rest of the avatars he saw how a terrified Cassida was trying to Teleport, so he Counterspelled her. As he was hurrying the group, the archmage recognized him as the creation of Selena Erenves, who was also her co-worker as one of the three lead designers of the Factorum Malleus.

After Umleta showed them a recording in which Acastriel (Pelor's solar, whom Ayden recognized) talked with two of Cassida's colleagues and urged them to activate the Factorum Malleus, the avatars started moving, as Aeor shook surrounded by Kord's tempest. Before leaving the Ars Elysia SILAHA ordered 4X to vacate the place, and allowed Asha to take a bottle of alcohol for Tishar and herself. On their way to the Genesis Ward they witnessed the Cognouza Ward disappear, abandoning the city with magic, and SILAHA noticed several people failing to cast teleportation magic and understood that the fleeing ward had consumed so much power to do so that it had altered reality, disturbing magic in the area. They decided that Arcadia, Emhira, Umleta, and Trist would accompany Cassida to the scroll bank connected to the Factorum Malleus, to destroy the information it contained while the rest of the team destroyed the wards of the machine following the archmage's instructions; as part of the preparations, SILAHA cast Armor of Agathys and Mage Armor on himself, as well as Protection from Evil and Good, and allowed Trist to cast Death Ward on him. When the Aeormaton and his team arrived in the chamber he went in first, making his eyes look orange and acting as usual in front of Selena and her colleagues (which included the solar Acastriel), although as he approached he felt the lethal energy of the weapon nearby. While he informed his friends telepathically, SILAHA asked Selena if she needed something, and she explained the situation and the necessity to activate their machine as soon as possible; Acastriel, suspicious of the avatar, asked him to confirm his identity as an Aeorian construct, but the angel felt the lies in his words, so he attacked. Combat started, and the Emissary entered ready to destroy the wards of the Factorum Malleus, demolishing one with ease, assisted by SILAHA's Restore Balance; however, both of them were stunned by irrevocable constructs shortly after. They remained unable to act as the battle raged around them, protected by Ayden, who kept absorbing damage meant for them, as more mages, demons, and dragons appeared to protect the weapon; one of the wizards tried to use Power Word Kill against SILAHA, but he was healthy enough to resist it. Selena, who had been watching him, confessed she had always suspected his true identity, but she didn't want to destroy something as beautiful as he was; this, however, angered her co-worker Adamar Cadrow, who used Wish to cast Finger of Death, although thanks to his luck SILAHA resisted that too.

SILAHA casting Meteor Swarm - Sabira Langevin

Selena teleported the Aeormaton in front of her to grapple him, but shortly afterwards the stunned effect disappeared, and he was free to move again. He immediately used his Clockwork Cavalcade, and then quickened a Meteor Swarm that Selena failed to Counterspell; while the primarch resisted and survived the spell she let go of the sorcerer, but many others died (including Acastriel) or got very badly hurt. Although SILAHA was extremely excited using arcane magic, he was still in the area of effect of his own spell, so Asha used the magical connection created by Ayden to teleport next to the Aeormaton, helping him avoid some of the impacts and moving him around the chamber as if they were dancing. After more wards were destroyed the avatars got even more empowered, and Selena, understanding the danger, expressed regret and tried to approach SILAHA, who moved away; the archmage then dropped her staff and used a glass emblem to distract the Aeormaton, who caught it just as she used a Wish to spread the information of the Factorum Malleus to the mind of every wizard in the city and tell them to flee. The emblem was given to Asha and she released Arcadia from it (revealing that the now missing Father Milo must have been replacing her during part of their mission).

The Emissary had used his power to disanimate the Factorum Malleus, now crumbling, and while the other avatars were staying in the chamber with the crumbling machine, Asha kissed the latter's forehead, and told him he was right; then she joined the avatars of the other Prime Deities and running to the scroll bank to stop Asmodeus, SILAHA decided to stay, casting Gate so that anyone that who wanted to leave through the portal could. He hugged Selena, who was crying, and before Arcadia left, he telepathically shared the poem about the gods' death with her, so that the knowledge wouldn't be lost. When the Factorum Malleus produced a powerful blast of energy, SILAHA redirected most of it to hit Aeor itself (since now that all its mages had dangerous information they couldn't be allowed to live), although the wave also deactivated the Emissary, killing him. As he was taking his divine form and abandoning mortality, SILAHA told Selena he was proud of her and her accomplishments, and before the flying city crashed into Eiselcross, he sent her through the Gate. After Aeor was destroyed the incarnated gods, now divine again, had a brief conversation before returning to their realms about how their presence was dangerous for mortals. The Arch Heart stayed a little longer with Pelor, complimenting him for the beauty of dawn, and telling him that, in a way, Aeor's case was inevitable because all children reach a moment in which they want to do their own thing; he also explained that even if they couldn't be always with their mortal children, a part of them remained, like a scar. Before they left, Corellon took a strand of their hair and twirled it for a bit before throwing it, disappearing and leaving the Dawnfather alone.

Relationships[]

Selena Erenves[]

Primarch Selena Erenves created SILAHA's Aeormaton frame.[7] Captain Marcus, who led the Aeorian skyship Venatoria on the mission to pick up supplies and refugees from Hawk's Hill, asked if SILAHA could speak positively of him and the crew to Selena.[8]

During the battle at the Factorum Malleus, Selena revealed that she always knew there was something different about him, but didn't want to believe it, and even when she got confirmation that he was a mortal incarnation of the Arch Heart, she didn't want to destroy him.[9] SILAHA then saved her from the Factorum Malleus blast and explained how proud he was of her before sending Selena to an unknown location through the Gate he created.[10]

Deity Abilities[]

  • Divine Prowess: After calculating all bonuses, the Arch Heart doubles the result of any skill check they make. Their passive skill checks are also doubled.
  • Divine Magic: The Arch Heart may cast any cleric spell or domain spell of a domain they grant of any level once per turn without using a spell slot (it still takes an action, however). The Arch Heart's spell save DC is doubled as is the range, area of effect, and duration of all their spells.
  • Divine Vitality: Provided they haven't taken damage since the beginning of their last turn, the Arch Heart regenerates all hit points at the start of their turn. All their death saving throws are considered Natural 20s (bringing them up to 1 hit point automatically). Their maximum HP, current HP, and any temporary HP given by spells is multiplied by 10. Finally, they are immune to the poisoned, petrified, and paralyzed conditions, as well as any disease.
  • Divine Potency: All damage the Arch Heart deals by spells or weapon attacks is multiplied by 10. After rolling an attack roll, the Arch Heart can double the result and use that instead. After calculating all bonuses, the Arch Heart doubles their armor class. Their range with ranged weapons is also doubled.
  • Divine Resistance: The Arch Heart has five Legendary Resistances. After rolling a saving throw, they can double the result. The Arch Heart is immune to all non-magical damage, damage from weapons that are not Artifacts, and damage from spells of 6th level or lower. They are also immune to two elemental damage types (one of which is likely radiant) and resistant to four elemental damage types.
  • Divine Awareness: The Arch Heart has truesight, blindsight, and tremorsense to a range of 120 ft. They can speak and understand all languages (spoken and written) and communicate telepathically to any creature they can see. They are immune to the charmed, frightened, stunned, blinded, and deafened conditions.
  • Divine Vigor: The Arch Heart regains all limited use class features at the start of their turn. They are immune to exhaustion, and after all bonuses are calculated, have their speed doubled. The Arch Heart has three Legendary Actions per round.

Appearances and mentions[]

Quotations[]

  • SILAHA: What's wrong with the end? This is the thing about beauty, darling. It's all based on things that are finite.
    Emhira: You desire the end?
SILAHA: Yes, maybe I do. For the time that I have spent here I have seen this and I have witnessed it and I have enjoyed it. And to think, to think! It could all be gone like that. (finger snap) That is beauty. I'll be honest with you, because you're the only one I can be honest to. I'm tired. I just want to enjoy this. And yes, okay, fine, maybe it is possibly my fault that we are here and that hangs onto me. It hangs onto me and tortures me. But... there is something quite artistic and beautiful about it, weaving our own end.[28]
  • (to Selena Erenves, before sending her through a portal) "I have never been so proud of something as much as I have been of you. You've created something so beautiful, so pure. A weapon of destruction, yet preservation. You asked for the light. Then go."[29]

Trivia[]

  • His name means "weapon" in Swahili. Abubakar also clarified that in addition, SILAHA stands for "Specialized Intervention of Lethal And Hazardous Actors".[30]
    • Interestingly, two of the letters are also the initials of the Arch Heart.
  • The binary at the bottom of S.I.L.A.H.A.'s character card translates to "beauty".
  • On designing S.I.L.A.H.A. as an Aeormaton, Abubakar Salim explained that he "thought it would be great to play a God in the guise of the 'children of our children'. The Aeormatons are creation of mortals, and for Corellon/Arch Heart, that is a wonderful thing! Plus, they wouldn't expect those built to serve, to be their ruler".[31] Salim commented that the Arch Heart "stumbled upon Selena’s Aeormaton" when they went looking for an "expression of love" and creativity.[32]
