A Rope of Entanglement is a magical rope that can be used to restrain creatures within range.
Description[]
A rope of entanglement is 30 feet long and weight 3 pounds. As an action, it can be used to entangle a creature within 20 feet: the user speaks a command word, and the target must make a DC 15 Dexterity save. If they fail, they become restrained. They can, on their turn, attempt to escape with a successful DC 15 Dexterity or Strength check. Additionally, the wielder of the rope can release them as a bonus action by speaking the same command word. The rope has an AC of 20 and 20 HP, and will regenerate 1 HP every 5 minutes if damaged, unless it is brought down to 0 HP in which case it is completely destroyed.[2]
History[]
Vox Machina took a rope of entanglement off the body of the erinyes they killed in the City of Brass.[3] The erinyes had previously attempted to restrain Grog with the rope, but he had saved against the effect.[4]
Vex first used the rope out of combat, to magically fasten Scanlan to her Broom of Flying in order to cross a hazardous ravine on the Island of Viscan.[5] She used it again on the same island to pull Kerrek away from a glyph that had caused him to freeze in pain.[6]
Later, Vex used the rope to catch Astra Trickfoot while the party was dangling her over the bluffs as punishment for attempting to trick Pike into believing she was cursed.[7]
The rope was first used in combat to restrain a gloomstalker in the Crypts of Thomara as the party prepared for their battle with Vecna.[8]
Trivia[]
Per the Dungeon Master's Guide the rope technically can work on creatures of any size, but Matt indicated that may not be the case with the rope Vox Machina found.[9]
