A Rod of Absorption is a magical item that can absorb spell energy targeted specifically at the user (using a reaction), thereby nullifying the effects of the targeted spell. The rod can absorb up to 50 levels of spell energy over its entire existence, and once it reaches that level, it can't absorb more. It has no effect on a spell if the spell's levels would push it over that cap. If the user is a spellcaster, they can utilize any stored spell energy within the rod to power the casting of their own prepared spells, up to 5th level.[1]

History[]

Trent Ikithon had a Rod of Absorption with 27 spell levels remaining available to absorb in his possession when he was captured by the Mighty Nein in the battle at the Blooming Grove.[2] It was apparently taken by Caleb Widogast along with most of Trent's other possessions,[3] and worn by him, although not used, during the battle against Trent in Blumenthal.
