The Rivermaw Herd, formerly known as the Rivermaw Tribe, is a tribe of folk from the wild peoples of the Dividing Plains, who shunned the constraints of society. Living as hunters and scavengers, they call the Torian Forest their home.[3]

While the tribe doesn’t seek conflict, the dangers of the natural world ever encroach upon their camps, and many train as warriors to defend their families and elders.[4]

History[]

Around the 810s PD, the Herd of Storms, led by Kevdak, conquered the Rivermaw Tribe and folded its members into their own. During this time, the Rivermaw's members lives became more violent and savage. Once Kevdak was slain, the remaining members of both the Rivermaw and the Herd of Storms agreed to recant the life of brutality and become the renewed Rivermaw Tribe under the tenuous alliance of Ivon the Ironwilled and Zanror, son of Kevdak.[4] At this time, the Tribe numbered around 300 members.[3]

By 836 PD, the Rivermaw, now renamed the Rivermaw Herd, had grown in size to around 10,000 members. Zanroar still leads the herd, alongside his daughter Skyhaal.[3] One goliath of the herd, Edelbern Cleareyes, became Master of Development on the Tal'Dorei Council by this time.[5]

Specialized Roles[]

Brawlers[]

Goliath brawlers refuse to use weapons, instead favoring their own body strength and skill in fist-fighting. In the Rivermaw Tribe, goliath brawlers usually lead the charge on the battlefield.[6]

Juggernauts[]

A small number of barbarians in the Herd of Storms became known as Juggernauts for their ability to smash through defenses, wade into groups of foes with an unbreakable rage, and stand against all attempts to stop them. Those who survived and joined the Rivermaw still teach the Path of the Juggernaut.[7]

Stormborn[]

Likewise, a small number of goliath stormborn have joined the tribe. According to goliath legend, stormborn are born beneath a raging storm and grow to become mighty warriors with the ability to command lightning. Reportedly destined to become mythic heroes, stormborn often fight with reckless abandon and are often prideful, typically ignorant of the actuality of fate.[8] After the dissolution of the Herd of Storms, what few stormborn remained are now members of the Rivermaw Tribe, and the next generation of storm-children were just entering adulthood as of 812 PD.[9]
