Ria'Doin is a village in the Caramarin Reach of Issylra. Once abandoned,[2] it became a place of encounter and transition between Exandrian and Ruidian travelers.
Description[]
Ria'Doin is built on a valley area near Lake Umamu, and originally it was not too big, with about 150 buildings in total, lacking farming lands per se, but with many gardens in which vegetables grew.[3] After the Ashari and other political forces started taking care of the area, the town became functional again.
Points of interest[]
- Lake Umamu - Some locals made a living from fishing, and had a dock built for their boats on the lake.[4]
- Clerk's office - Even when it was abandoned, there were still many documents about the village.[6]
Society[]
Like many other small towns, Ria'Doin had neighborhood squabbles and rivalries.[7]
After the end of the Era of Reclamation, the population was a mix of Exandrian races (many of them from the Ashari) and Ruidians.[8]

History[]
At some point before 838 PD[1] a dark spirit called "The Silt"[13] arrived to live among the kelp and seaweed at the bottom of Lake Umamu (in which some of the local villagers fished), and began using its powers to attract people to the water, devouring them at the bottom. Initially people didn't know what was happening, but did notice that some villagers were missing. Local documents recorded that some of them started leaving Ria'Doin in a hurry. Eventually Gerald, a local fishmonger, recalled seeing somebody simply walking into Lake Umamu, which contributed to the feeling of unrest. The Burgmeister, seeing these disappearances, essentially abandoned his people and took with him everything of worth belonging to him.[14] The village ended up completely abandoned, being visited very occasionally by thieves.[15]
In 843 PD Bells Hells, while exploring Ruidus, found the portal connected to Lake Umamu and visited the abandoned village. After investigating for a bit and learning some of the unsettling history of Ria'Doin, they decided to spend the night there. However, the shadowy entity at the bottom of the lake attracted four of them, causing an underwater battle from which the adventurers managed to escape alive, although without killing the monster. After leaving some warnings for their allies (whom they had contacted and told about the portal to Ruidus from the lake near the village), the group returned to the red moon through the portal.[16]
Ashari people from Zephrah established a fortified outpost in the town to guard the portal to Ruidus following Orym's instructions.[17] Bells Hells and the Mighty Nein met there as the two teams infiltrating Kreviris on Ruidus in order to start their respective missions to deal with Ludinus Da'leth and the Weave Mind.[18] After Ludinus and Predathos were defeated it was decided that Exandrians and Ruidians should stay in contact through the portal in the lake,[19] so Keyleth and the Ashari worked to turn the ruins of Ria'Doin into a functional town again so that the refugees would have a place to stay and make contact.[20] Imogen Temult and Laudna spent some time in the town, helping with the integration of the Ruidian refugees (since Imogen's telepathy was particularly useful to deal with Reilora).[21]
