Relationship[]

Laudna and Orym are allies.

History[]

On day 2 of their journey to Heartmoor Hamlet, Laudna confided to Orym when they were taking watch together about her last day and subsequent death in Whitestone. Orym quickly made the historical connection. Laudna told him that it wasn't worth it to brood over unchangeable events, and to "focus [his] brain forward." Meanwhile, Orym expressed that he was impressed by her and that she shouldn't have faced something as horrifying as that.[1]

Days later, aboard the Silver Sun, Orym was knocked off the ship mid-battle with Skirath hunters. Laudna spotted it happening and deftly cast Feather Fall on him, aiding in his rescue.[2]

During Laudna's resurrection ritual in Whitestone, Orym reached out to her soul and was the only one to do so successfully. He told her she wasn't just a detail in Delilah Briarwood's story, and that he didn't know what Bells Hells would be without her darkness and her light. He also cast Druidcraft and made red poppies bloom in her hair.[3]

Laudna, Orym, and Ashton Greymoore were all teleported to the Demithore Valley in Issylra during the apogee solstice, split up from the rest of the party.[4]

Laudna and Orym spoke after the people of Hearthdell led by Joan Abaddina asked them to rid the town of missionaries of the Dawnfather in exchange for help locating the rest of Bells Hells. Laudna was angry at what she perceived as the short-sightedness and ignorance of the town, and how there were far more pressing issues at hand. Orym, meanwhile, struggled with Abaddina's sympathy with Ludinus Da'leth, having lost his husband and father-in-law to the Ruby Vanguard. They both agreed the most important thing to do was find the rest of the party, and were glad to at least have each other as friends.[5]

During the fight against Bor'Dor Dog'Son (revealing himself to be a member of the Ruby Vanguard), when Laudna, in her Form of Dread, was overwhelmed by emotion and considering whether to make a final attack to kill Bor'Dor, Orym nodded to her, indicating his support.[6]

The two found themselves at odds, however, when Orym urged Imogen Temult to continue connecting with Predathos to gather more information during their scouting mission on Ruidus. Laudna told Orym to stop pressuring her, to which he said that he was pressuring her, but only because they were all under immense pressure to stop the Ruby Vanguard's plans.[7]

Later, along with Chetney Pock O'Pea, both Laudna and Orym were on the infiltration mission on behalf of the Volition together.[8]

Having escaped Ruidus, lost Fresh Cut Grass, sacrificing himself to slain Otohan Thull, Bells Hells stayed in Lodge of the Eclipse in Zadash in preparation for the next leg of their journey. While the party was working on their clothing for their upcoming Aeor trip, Orym asked Chetney for Otohan's blade Ishta. After taking it outside and, after some time with it, sheathing it in vines on his back, Orym returned. Laudna, while staying up to work on her project, felt uneasy after noticing the sword, and Delilah whispered to her that it may be cursed and may even have controlled Otohan. She convinced Laudna that were Laudna to wield it, she could determine if it were cursed. Laudna cast Spider Climb on herself and Darkness on the room and attempted to weaken the vines' hold on the sword with Wither and Bloom. However, Orym woke up and began attacking his unknown assailant. Laudna scurried onto the ceiling and used Mage Hand to yank the sword from Orym's back, after which Delilah told her it was cursed. Orym continued to attack until Laudna lost concentration on Darkness; upon seeing her holding Ishta, he attempted to Grasping Vine it out of her hands, which Laudna Counterspelled. Orym attempted to trip her off the ceiling, and when that failed, disarmed her.[9]

Now with Orym holding the sword, and with everyone awakened by the noise, Laudna tried to convince everyone that the sword was cursed, while Orym argued that she had attacked him in his sleep rather than initiating a discussion. While Fearne and Imogen were initially sympathetic to Laudna, they began to think differently after Fearne Calloway used Identify and Chetney used Grim Psychometry to confirm that the sword was not inherently evil.[10]

Following further discussion, the party ultimately decided that Ishta belonged to Orym, but as a compromise, Laudna was given Scream Needle.[11]
