Reaching Bluff is a reclusive miners' village in the Cliffkeep Mountains, in the north of Tal'Dorei.[1]
Village Description[]
Reaching Bluff is in the northwest of the Cliffkeep Mountains, not far from the northern coast of the Frigid Depths, in a small but fertile valley with some deposits of gold and iron. The village's atmosphere is described as charming and rustic, although not exactly welcoming.[4]
The foredwarf of the village seems to be the figure of local authority.[2]
Society[]
Demographics[]
The population of Reaching Bluff is made up of hardy homesteaders either arriving in search of places to mine or banished from other settlements. Humans and dwarves abound, but there are also members with earth elemental ancestry, as well as some drow and people of other ancestries.[1]

History[]
Reaching Bluff was founded in the year 826 PD by homesteaders who were looking for a place to become miners, and who were later joined by exiles from Kraghammer, who, although they lived with their neighbors, were not welcoming to newcomers, making it so that travelers passing through the village do not stay too long.[4]

Less than a year after the founding of Reaching Bluff[5] a local miner found a strange gleaming object in the shape of a dodecahedron; while her pickaxe barely scratched it, the impact caused the object to emanate a golden glow from within. The object was given to the local foredwarf, but the rest of the neighbors soon found out about its existence.[2] The settlers' fascination with this shining dodecahedron turned into religious fervor, and they started calling it the Lost Beacon of Unknown Light; although they do not fully understand its nature or have been able to communicate with it, they consider it a mystic oracle who will lead Reaching Bluff to prosperity, and they worship it as a god.[6]
As of 836 PD, the villagers have become much more reclusive, especially when it comes to their beloved beacon, and try to keep information about it from leaving Reaching Bluff. However, the news eventually reach the outside world and attracts the attention of adventurers and/or treasure-seekers; the locals devotedly defend their cult object, and among them, Foredwarf Daz is particularly passionate, being willing to kill anyone who probes too much in their business.[6]
Trivia[]

Depiction of a Luxon beacon, by Olga Drebas.[art 3]
- Earth genasi, of whom there are about ten in Reaching Bluff, are rare in Tal'Dorei outside of Terrah, distant Niirdal-Poc, and some giant communities.[7]
- Reaching Bluff is the first known place outside of Wildemount where a Luxon beacon has been found.
- Although in 836 PD the dark elves of the Kryn Dynasty of Xhorhas have sent emissaries to Tal'Dorei in search of new followers and new beacons, at that time they are unaware of the one found in Reaching Bluff,[8] and there is no indication that any of the drow living in the village (about ten, based on percentage)[1] have any connection to the Wildemount envoys.
- The Lost Beacon of Unknown Light emits a golden glow,[2] instead of the usual grey hue of the light of other beacons.
