Ranthiel Volthor is a human warlock and member of the Glorious Ones. He was played by Sam Richardson in "Choose Their Adventure...Again!" (Sx81).
Description[]
Ranthiel Volthor is a human with braided hair tied back with a blue headband and a cloak that covers a fine bit of hide armor. He is very sexy and charming, and loves to drink.[2] A very young and naive Scanlan Shorthalt looked up to and admired his cavalier attitude and ability to pick up women, and tried to emulate him.
Biography[]
"Choose Their Adventure...Again!" (Sx81)[]
Ranthiel was in Drobanagos on the island of Athova-Rae at the time of the Musetide Festival some time prior to about 795 PD.[3] There, he came to the aid of an Elder of the village who got involved in a bar room brawl, and along with several others, was hired to provide security for the festival. The group was approached by an apparent young woman who sought their aid rescuing her sister from a sea cave. Once there, the women revealed themselves as merfolk attempting to perform a ritual to awaken and control a gargantuan, unconscious crab. The party killed the women and the crab, but later discovered the creature was a protective guardian of the town. To avoid unpleasantness, Ran joined Dr. Dranzel's Spectacular Traveling Troupe in taking ship for Tal'Dorei, with Dranzel being interested in having the warlock as their promoter.
Relationships[]
Bramble[]
At the beginning of "Choose Their Adventure...Again!" (Sx81), Ranthiel denied repeatedly that Bramble was his girlfriend, although they had apparently had some form of romantic encounter which he referred to as a "situation-ship". Throughout the episode, she continued to say he was her boyfriend and was in love with her, and he continued to deny it. He flirted back with Lygeia, the disguised siren, as they traveled, and the two made a date to meet after their quest was completed. However, when Ranthiel bisected Lygeia during the battle, he told her, "I've got a girlfriend," thrilling Bramble.
Scanlan Shorthalt[]
Scanlan seemed to find Ran's confidence inspiring, and he wanted to learn from him, even trying some accents to sound cooler.

- ↑ "Choose Their Adventure...Again!" (Sx81) takes place in a time in Scanlan's life when he's still inexpert and lacks confidence, and by the end of it he's trying to behave more like the charismatic Ranthiel Volthor. Since between 795 and 796 PD Scanlan had a messy affair with a member of the Darrington Estate staff that forced the bard and his troupe to leave, presumably the gnome's time with the Glorious Ones preceded this incident in Deastok.
