Rajan Savarimuthu is criss-crossed with scars and runic tattoos from his travels, a suave archaeologist. He is played by Noshir Dalal.

Description[]

Rajan is almost six feet tall and scarred on one side of his face, with the other side covered in runic tattoos. He is always dressed head-to-toe in finery. He wears gloves whenever possible, and when he closed a door, he wiped his hand with a handkerchief afterwards. Rajan is brash and sometimes obnoxious.[1] Beneath his fine jacket and shirt, he has a hive full of locusts built into his chest.[2]

After he unleashed his insect swarm upon the Serious Man, Rajan's right eye began changing to resemble the black compound eye of an insect.[3] Eventually, the transformation was complete and the eyelid fell off.[4]

Biography[]

Background[]

In his youth, Rajan's mother Vimala[5] became very ill. The Serious Man saved her with Oldfairen artifacts, but his sister Atheka became the thrall of The Maw.[6] In the form of a beautiful nun, Rahema, it offered the family comfort, allowing Rajan's sister to improve and giving the grieving family much hope. One night, Rajan followed his sister to a dark neighborhood in the city, finding her digging before she turned into something monstrous and attacked him. He tried to use a nursery rhyme to protect them, but fumbled a single word and saved only himself, losing his sister to The Maw, the monster that hid behind the nun's beautiful face.[7]

Prior to the events of the Circle of Tide and Bone, Rajan and Elsie Roberts were linked romantically, but she was unaware of his changed, insect-like physicality.[8]
