Quon a Drensal, or Run of Luck in Common, is an old Marquesian gambling game where players bet on racing lizards.
Description[]
Players place bets on one of five lizards. The lizards are released from cages onto a mazelike track. The lizard that reaches the end of the track first is the winner. The players that bet on the winning lizard receive double their bet. Players that bet on the second place lizard wins back half of their bet.[1]
Game Mechanics[]
The DM rolls a d4 for each lizard three times, describing the state of the race after each roll. The lizard with the highest total is the winner.[1]
History[]
Quon a Drensel is the namesake game of the Luck's Run, a casino in Ank'Harel, which has a table for the game. The minimum bet there is 25 gp.[1] In 811 PD, the names of the lizards competing there are Rul, Sonpa, Thordak, Wendis, and Devo'ssa, two of which are named after the dragon that attempted to conquer Ank'Harel centuries ago and the dragon that defeated him.[2]
During Vox Machina's visit to the Luck's Run casino, Keyleth tried casting Speak with Animals to talk to the lizards, but was caught and kicked out of the building.[3] Percival de Rolo and Vex'ahlia each bet 25 gp on Thordak and Sonpa respectively. Devo'ssa won the race, but Sonpa came in second place, so Vex won back 13 gp.[4]
