The Pipe of Remembrance is a long, delicate wooden pipe with a bowl of carved river stone.[1]

Properties[]

Once per day, smoke exhaled from the pipe remains around the user "like a weird little cloud" instead of dissipating. After 10 minutes the smoke forms moving images (visible to all) of the user's most heroic and impressive achievements.[1][2]

History[]

Ashton Greymoore owned a Pipe of Remembrance.[3] He gave it to Prism Grimpoppy to smoke while they traveled between Hearthdell and the Irriam Canyon of Issylra. The images revealed her most impressive memory as being when a mage visiting the Shadow Realm invited her to the Cobalt Soul to train as an apprentice there.[4] Later, Bor'Dor Dog'Son used the pipe, revealing his memories of casting Fire Bolt a few days earlier and feeling for the first time like he belonged.[5] In reality, the memory was his proudest because he had succeeded in infiltrating Team Issylra, which he saw as the enemy of his true allegiance, the Ruby Vanguard.

Ashton asked Evontra'vir, the Great Tree of Atrophy, to smoke the pipe and he complied, revealing hundreds of visions of people running, then caught, brought to a tree, and vanishing into it.[6]

The pipe was actually identified for the first time when Ashton gave it to Laudna to help her feel better about herself.[7]

After Bells Hells returned from Aeor with Braius Doomseed as their new member, they asked him to smoke the pipe during their celebration of the sealing of Delilah Briarwood into a soul anchor. His vision, however, revealed the gory defeat and flaying of "Stanley", whose skin was made into the cup that Sam Riegel (and presumably Braius) drink from.[8]

Later, Ashton mentioned he got the pipe in an Italian/mob-run restaurant or bakery.[9]
