A Philter of Love is a love potion.

Description[]

The rose-colored, effervescent potion contains a single floating heart-shaped bubble. When consumed, the drinker is charmed for one hour by the first creature that they see within ten minutes. If the creature is of a kind that the drinker would normally be attracted to, they fall madly in love with the creature for the duration of the charm.[1]

History[]

During Vox Machina's vacation together in the Bay of Gifts at Dalen's Closet during "One Year Later..." (1x95), Taryon Darrington pulled Vax'ildan aside and gave him an unspecified magical item, saying it would be useful in Vax's ongoing prank war with Grog Strongjaw. He told him to "use it when the time is right."[2]

Later, the night before the party's final encounter with Vecna, Vax pulled Grog aside and revealed the item to be a Philter of Love. Although Vax couldn't use it to make Grog fall in love with him because he was pretty sure Grog went "taco, not hot dog", he proposed that the two of them together use the potion to prank Scanlan, and Grog enthusiastically agreed. The first person that Scanlan saw after drinking from his cup was Percy, with whom he became instantly infatuated and began flirting with.[3]

Later, after everyone went to bed, Scanlan put on his best silk g-string and made his way through the series of tunnels interconnecting all of the rooms to Percy's room, where he crawled into bed between Percy and Vex'ahlia. Percy pulled Manners from under his pillow to bind Scanlan while they tried to figure out what was going on. The enchantment wore off just as Scanlan was leaving the room.[4]

In the non-canon "Critical Role: Bar Room Blitz" (Sx21), the character of Peter Pan had and used a Philter of Love.

Quotations[]

  • "I've never seen you in this light before. Your eyebrows. I want to lick them. They seem soft." (Scanlan to Percy, after Scanlan consumed the Philter)[5]
