The Pariah Blades were the cold iron swords used to slay Azgra the Conqueror, the Shaper of War.
Description[]
Appearance[]
One of the Pariah Blades on exhibit at the Archanade in Dol-Makjar was well-crafted but plain in appearance, seeming so dull that it absorbed some of the magic light that would illuminate its surfaces.[2] Lady Amariya Cormoray implied that the Archanade had managed to collect all of the surviving blades in existence with the help of the Lloys themselves,[3] along with other items involved in the destruction of other Shapers.[4]
History[]
The orcs chafed against the evil god of suffering who had shaped them,[5] Azgra the Conqueror, and the ancient smiths of the Lloy family, a family of orc smiths native to Dol-Makjar, crafted the first of the Pariah Blades to wield against him. The creation of the blades was accomplished by painstaking effort of hammering raw ore.[6]
Seventy years after the Shapers' War, the Lloy family was still respected for crafting the swords that slew Azgra.[7]
Known blades[]
- Shay's Blade, the last of the Pariah Blades, was on exhibit in the Lloy Wing of the Archanade museum. It was the sword that killed Azgra, making him the first god to die in Aramán.[8]
- The Liar's Blade, the sword of Thjazi Fang gifted to his brother Halandil Fang upon his death, bore a maker's mark indicating it had been crafted by the Lloys,[9] and likely is one of the Pariah Blades.
Trivia[]
- According to Bolaire Lathalia, the destruction of each of the Shapers, regardless of weapon, worked because it involved a seemingly mundane item used against something of celestial nature.[10] According to him, the "weight of reality" in those weapons (including the Pariah Blades) could potentially hurt the celestial servants of the gods as well.[11]
