Otto was a goliath member of The Roaches, a gang in Rybad-Kol prison. As an NPC, Otto was played by Brennan Lee Mulligan.

Description[]

Otto was a very large bearded goliath, with a roach tattoo on one enormous bicep.[1] He was fairly bright, reasoning that if fellow gang member Crokas had been executed, it would have been public since his offense was violent,[2] and suggesting using Crokas' lack of a normal dragonborn breath weapon as a possible way to falsely claim he was ill.[3]

Biography[]

Otto was a long term member of The Roaches, the gang of which Fiedra Marrow was the leader, and worked in the kitchens of Rybad-Kol prison along with its other members. When he found the bones of a hand while cleaning one of the cooking pots, he asked Fiedra if it should be reported to anyone, observing that he'd be upset if he'd lost a hand and found out he'd eaten it.[4] As the group discussed possible strategies for saving their fellow gang member Crokas from transportation to be killed, he came up with several good ideas, and volunteered to accompany Fiedra when she left to talk to Rei'nia Saph about it, but instead remained in the kitchen to deal with the pots there.[5] After the prison was destroyed, Fiedra searched unsuccessfully for the rest of the gang in its ruins[6] before leaving for Torm's Hill.

When Fiedra's party reached the settlement, Otto and Taveen rushed to greet her, explaining that they had survived the fall of the prison by hiding under a gigantic cooking pot and rolling in it [7] Later, during the battle against the soldiers of the Strife Emperor, Otto was knocked unconscious and bleeding to the ground. Fiedra almost immediately killed the soldier who had wounded him, and when the battle was over, Klasara Bandy brought him back to consciousness.[8]

Otto was present when Fiedra confronted the traitor Marlath and cut out his tongue. Otto followed up by kicking him in the stomach, telling him, "You're not a very nice man."[9] That night, each of the Roaches took turns keeping watch over the others as they slept, including Otto.[10]

In the morning, as Fiedra bade them both farewell, she told them to remain in the settlement and help Klasara and Nez Pilch in any way they needed. They agreed, with Otto observing that the villagers were very sweet, and if anyone showed up that didn't see that, they'd kick the shit out of them. He then broke down, admitting they'd miss her, and gave her a big hug.[11]

When Fiedra returned to Torm's Hill, she found both Taveen and Otto there, and presumably took them with her when she eventually settled in the area around Stilben.[12]

Quotations[]

  • (after finding the bones of a hand in the stewpot) "Well, that's a hand."[13]
  • "I obviously would care more about losing a hand than eating one. But if I lost it and ate mine without knowing, I would be mad."[14]
