Otohan Thull (pronounced /ˈoʊtəˌhɑːn ˈθuːl/) was the leader of Paragon's Call in the city of Bassuras. As an NPC, Otohan Thull was played by Matthew Mercer.

Description[]
Appearance[]
Otohan was a woman with a lithe "dancer's body", fit and compact, with dark tan skin, piercing eyes, and short grey hair that's folded to one side. When seen by Bell's Hells, they were wearing dark leathers and a heavy thigh-length cloak with a thick mantle or hood that crossed their shoulders and covered their lower head and face. Their gloved hand had exposed fingers.[15]
Personality[]
Otohan had a presence that made it seem as if she was taller than she actually was. The rowdy members of Paragon's Call grew still and reverent when she appeared.[16]
Biography[]
Otohan was a famed warrior in the Apex War between the Stratos Throne and Aeshanadoor. She was considered one of the greatest warriors under the Stratos Throne, a general who was both a tactician and a strategist. Her soubriquet "The Legend of the Peaks" was given to her because of her involvement with the Throne's home city of Sruwargus in the Taloned Highlands, located in the Coven Peaks. Her armies performed either great deeds, or atrocities, depending on one's perspective. Following the war, she vanished for a while, then appeared in Bassuras.[17][18] Ludinus Da'leth had heard of her capabilities and legend in the war through his connections and, suspecting she was an Exaltant Ruidusborn, reached out to her, filling her with renewed purpose.[19] Otohan was a member of Paragon's Call for at least the five years preceding Campaign Three. At some point she took leadership of the entire organization and was responsible for expanding its influence beyond the Hellcatch Valley.[20]
Otohan was the wielder of Ishta, an old weapon with a dark history, and continued its tradition of violence.[21] According to Ashton Greymoore, Otohan was the most crazy killer in the history of the city, describing her as "nightmare fuel." She had disappeared from the public eye when Ashton was a kid, and had apparently returned since Ashton left town.[22]
Otohan met Bells Hells when they entered the Seat of Disdain claiming to be looking for employment by Paragon's Call. General Ratanish introduced Otohan as the person who would make the decision as to whether or not to employ the group. Otohan told them that in order to prove themselves, they must either fight or successfully participate in the Deathwish Race. Ashton chose the race, to begin that evening at dusk. He was awestruck by Otohan, regarding her as a sort of living legend or nightmare, a figure from the past with a dark reputation.[23]
During the Deathwish Run, Imogen saw Otohan from a distance and recognized her as the woman who repeatedly appeared in her dreams of the red storm.[24] When Otohan later approached the group to congratulate them on their victory, Imogen hid behind Fearne.[25]
When Birdie Calloway described a meeting in the Feywild between members of the Unseelie Court and two "Exandrians", Imogen described Otohan and Birdie confirmed she was one of the two; the other was an older male elf,[26] who was later identified as Ludinus Da'leth by Ira Wendagoth.[27]

During the attack on the Seat of Disdain, Laudna encountered Otohan on a balcony overlooking the battle below and planted the tracking ring on her under cover of a Darkness spell. Otohan, however, had recognized that the attack was a distraction and was watching for anomalies.[28] She leapt from the balcony to the fortress wall and saw the party's escape through the back gates, where she set herself up to intercept.[29] After destroying their crawler, she learned their employer was Ariks Eshteross by invading Orym's mind. Concurrently, Orym realized that the echo knights she summoned by invoking the crystal vials on her back were the shadowy attackers of Zephrah he'd been sent to investigate. During the ensuing battle, Otohan was able to knock Ashton unconscious in one round of combat, inflict serious damage on anyone she faced, and move around the battlefield seemingly at will using her Psi-Powered Leap. When Imogen resisted Otohan's calls to give into her true nature, Otohan began killing instead of merely incapacitating the other party members. She killed both Orym and Fearne outright, and had Laudna at two failed death saves and at the end of her sword when Imogen gave in with a white flash of power.[30]
After Imogen's subsequent vision, her body began to crackle with power. Imogen opened her eyes to see Otohan staring back at her, who said, "You are a true predator. A gift in their image. If you can be as strong as we can, to deny your nature is to be consumed by it. To embrace it is to master your own fate. I am proud of you." The voice of Liliana Temult then echoed in Imogen's mind: "Run, Imogen. Run!" Imogen attempted to run as Otohan pursued, entreating her to join them. Finally, Imogen turned and blasted Otohan, sending her streaking away into the white.[31]
Shortly thereafter, Otohan appeared in Jrusar with her shadow assassins, attacking and killing Lord Eshteross before disappearing again.[32]
According to Ebenold Kai, Otohan was very pious in the service of the Matron of Ravens when they were at the height of their power as a soldier, but lost faith after the conclusion of the Apex War. The Grim Verity believes that, like Imogen, Otohan is an Exaltant, a particularly strong Ruidusborn, and that Otohan is building an army from all over Exandria in the Hellcatch Valley of Marquet.[33] She was the last Exaltant studied by the Omen Archive, becoming unhappy with the limited information she received when the researchers grew uncomfortable about her motives. It was at that point that Grim Verity scattered and went into hiding as their offsite researchers began to disappear.[34]
After her deadly encounter with Otohan Laudna had been checking her tracking orb quite frequently to make sure Thull wasn't following them; however, while Bells Hells were in the Fey Realm they forgot to check, so they were surprised when they found the leader of Paragon's Call in the Shiver Keep, in Unseelie territory, arguing with Sorrowlord Zathuda about Ludinus's work, and promising that the effort of their shared project would be worth it. When Laudna checked the orb, it signaled Thull's presence, confirming that she had not removed the ring with which she was tracked.[35]

The next day, already in Exandria, Bells Hells decided to search in dreams for their ally, Planerider Ryn, using the combined powers of Imogen and FCG and taking Chetney and Laudna with them. In Imogen's dream they found the petrified tiefling wizard near the Malleus Key in the Tishtan ruins, and soon after Otohan noticed their presence. Imogen and Laudna managed to wake up to avoid interacting with her, but the psi warrior had enough time to identify FCG and Chetney and blast them with psychic energy as punishment for spying on them.[36]
When Bells Hells infiltrated the Tishtan excavation site they discovered through Laudna's tracking orb that Otohan was in the area. When Thull approached the room they were in, they hid from her. An explosion in a different part of the ruins distracted Otohan, and Imogen then cast Psychic Lance against her, who felt the attack but didn't know who was responsible.[37] Later, during Ludinus Da'leth's speech, Keyleth of the Air Ashari arrived in the form of a plummeting earth elemental to help Bells Hells, but their enemies were expecting it: Ludinus magically immobilized Keyleth while Otohan and her echoes mercilessly attacked her, forcing her back into half-elven form. The attack was stopped when the Champion of Ravens suddenly appeared and interposed himself. Orym and Fearne then attacked the backpack device that allowed Otohan to summon her echoes, leaving it severely damaged (but not destroyed), and angering Otohan by their interference.[38]
At some point during or after the beginning of the solstice Otohan came through the village of Razora on Ruidus, later returning to Exandria.[39] A desert warden druid killed by Bells Hells stated while under the influence of the Speak with Dead spell that Otohan had stayed in the Red Center with the Malleus Key.[40] Days later, when Bells Hells infiltrated the excavation site to go through the Bloody Bridge, they saw Otohan arrive with an elven-looking person and a Thought Eater reilora. She commanded those around her to prepare for battle and protect the Malleus Key, after which she used her Psi-Powered Leap to reach the battlefield.[41] Bells Hells crossed the Bloody Bridge and were immediately pursued by their enemies. Shortly afterwards, Otohan herself arrived on the red moon and Laudna detected her presence with her tracking orb, motivating the adventurers to leave quickly. Later, while Imogen was psychically interacting with Predathos, she had a vision of all of the Ruidusborn as lights interconnected by tethers, including Thull as one of the shiniest, since she was an Exaltant.[42]

Later that same day in the village of Razora, Fearne and FCG escorted two young Ruby Vanguard recruits back to the newly arriving caravan Bells Hells intended to infiltrate, where they found Otohan, who had been tracking Imogen after she briefly connected with Predathos. The two adventurers tried to flee, but were immediately noticed by Otohan, who used her Psi-Powered Leap to land in front of them. Fearne played dumb but Otohan's echoes appeared around them, and FCG told Otohan they came to tell her that Imogen wanted to talk to her back at the Bloody Bridge. However, Otohan responded that the reason she was in the village was that she could feel where Imogen was. Fearne suggested maybe it was her she felt, since Fearne is also Ruidusborn, and this interested Otohan greatly, saying Fearne must be the one "he" spoke about. She decided she would keep Fearne, but FCG wasn't needed, and attacked FCG repeatedly, wounding them and throwing them prone. Fearne tried to intervene, telling her that Imogen was in Kreviris, before FCG used his last spell slot to cast a 6th level Banishment which Otohan used a legendary resistance to avoid. However, FCG instead banished himself and Fearne to a demi-plane. When Fearne and FCG appeared again (in the form of clouds), Otohan's echo knights unleashed their attacks against them. However, the adventurers were too fast in their new misty forms, and although Otohan used her Psi-Powered Leap to jump 100 feet trying to reach them, she failed.
The following day, after Bells Hells defeated a group of reiloran warriors and their mounts in Kreviris, Laudna's tracking orb revealed that Otohan was relatively near, at the entrance to the valley where the city was located.[43] She continued checking the orb, which showed Otohan in the core of the city but still some distance away,[44] eventually going down to the heart of the city, Vaterra Kreviris, only to return to the surface during the night.[45]
While half of Bells Hells were in a mission to rescue the scientist Evoroa, Laudna checked the orb and noticed that Otohan was in the center of the Prime Pillar of Kreviris.[46] However, later, when a shock was felt from a detonation that occurred in the nearby excavation, the orb revealed that Otohan was descending.[47] After the party rejoined and was fleeing through tunnels leading from Vaterra Kreviris to the surface, they suddenly noticed shadowy figures trailing them, and when Laudna checked the orb she realized Otohan was very close. One of the shadowy figures emerged from a side tunnel and took color, becoming Otohan Thull herself, who confronted the party and a battle immediately ensued.[48]

In the fight, Otohan was able to hit the party virtually at will, and her powerful multiple attacks and high armor class resulted in Chetney's death and subsequent Revivify, and almost all of the party being brought to unconsciousness at various points throughout the battle. Although their damage against Otohan was smaller and slow, she was eventually brought low enough that she flared into her Exaltant form, becoming even more difficult to hit and halving all damage she took. Still, the party was able to hurt her and she was forced to consume an unprecedentedly powerful healing potion. Finally, in a desperate rage brought on by the stress of the battle, Fresh Cut Grass moved next to her and fired a Guiding Bolt into his arcane core, causing an explosion that destroyed both of them. Her belongings and body were gathered by the party into their portable hole and they continued their journey to the surface.[49]

Trivia[]

Orym vs Otohan, by Kamille Areopagita and Kevin Areopagita from the animated intro.[art 9]
- Otohan is the woman who appeared in several of Imogen Temult's dreams. The woman in the dreams was described as "lithe, built, hard to discern where on the spectrum of gender it may lie, but you're almost certain it's feminine when you take more time to focus." She had short, gray hair pushed to the left side and dark, hard, focused eyes. She was surrounded by other figures and greeted Imogen, saying, "Hello. How interesting." In the dream-state she rushed Imogen, who woke up and asked FCG to draw the woman, but the drawing wasn't very good.[88]
- Otohan is responsible for the deaths of five of the seven members of the Bells Hells, and she is the only cause of Bells Hells deaths during the stream, apart from Ashton's brief death and immediate resurrection by the Ring of Temporal Salvation.[89] She has killed Orym (Revivified),[90][91] Fearne Calloway(Revivified),[92][93] Laudna (Raised),[94][95] and Chetney Pock O'Pea (Revivified).[96] FCG sacrificed himself to bring about her death.[97]
- According to Liliana Temult Otohan was a candidate to become the potential vessel for Predathos.[98]
- Matthew Mercer said that Otohan was at 40 or so hit points before FCG sacrificed his life in order to kill her in "True Heroism" (3x91).[99][100]
