Be careful, you'll rouse the Anger.
–
warning in the taverns of Jrusar[1]
[!h]

Oshad Breshio (pronounced /oʊˈʃɑːd ˈbrɛʃioʊ/), also known as the Anger, is a dwarven bodyguard in Jrusar. Remembered as a talented and well-traveled mercenary, Oshad's reputation somewhat faded after beginning work as a bodyguard for the Mahaan house Lumas in about 833 PD. At the start of Campaign Three, Orym traveled to Jrusar to investigate an attack on house Lumas that left Oshad severely wounded, due to its similarity to an attack in Zephrah several years ago.

Description[]

Appearance[]

Oshad is a powerfully-built male dwarf in his mid-fifties with rich black skin. Handsome and rugged, he has a smooth bald head and a sculpted goatee coming to a braided point over his sternum.[2]

Personality[]

Oshad is characterized by others as a highly skilled mercenary and bodyguard. Ariks Eshteross, also a former mercenary, described Oshad figuratively as having a "hound-like nose" and felt that evading notice long enough to invade house Lumas spoke to such high skill on an assailant's part that it was worrying.[3] Orym, who had heard word through members of Vox Machina, understood Oshad as someone capable.[4] Despite his reputation and at times soldierly manner,[5] he was also described as having a gentle soul and an air of confidence and calm.[6] He felt a deep regret for his failure to protect his charges, the Lumas twins, a regret he believed he'd carry the rest of his life, and strongly sought justice against those who killed them.[7]

Biography[]

Background[]

Oshad Breshio originally hailed from the region around Ank'Harel.[8] He and Jarett Howarth knew one another when they were young and sought fortune as "ragtag sellswords" before Jarett left Marquet for Tal'Dorei.[9] Oshad cultivated a reputation as a talented mercenary while traveling across Exandria. He earned the nickname The Anger twenty to thirty years before "Growing Bonds and Teasing Threads" (3x06) because of a tendency to drag anyone who would start overly violent bar fights and break public property into the street and beat them within an inch of their lives.[8]

In about 833 PD, he was hired as a personal bodyguard for Balan and Zeyer Lumas of the Mahaan houses in Jrusar, and had since largely faded into obscurity but was still remembered as one of the "old guard".[8][10] However, his reputation as The Anger persists, and when fights break out, tavern owners who were working back then still sometimes mutter the warning, "Be careful, you'll rouse The Anger."[8]

In Unndilar 843 PD, a handful of weeks before the events of "Growing Bonds and Teasing Threads" (3x06), three unknown black-clad assailants wielding poisoned weapons attacked Balan, Zeyer, and Oshad while they were visiting Roe Estani in the Heartmoor, ultimately killing Balan and Zeyer and severely wounding Oshad.[11] He was taken back to Jrusar[11] and spent much of the following time unconscious, initially only able to speak with others occasionally while he recovered.[12] However, Jarett[9] visiting from the Whitestone, was able to have a conversation with him. Learning about the attack, Jarett notified Keyleth through Percival de Rolo and Vex'ahlia de Rolo. Due to its similarity with an assassination attempt that happened in 837 PD in Zephrah, Keyleth asked Orym to travel to Jrusar, meet with Oshad, and investigate.[13]

Campaign Three: Bells Hells[]

Once Oshad was well enough, Ariks Eshteross arranged through Ela Lumas for Orym and the others in the yet-to-be-named Bells Hells to visit him. He described his experience of the attack to Orym,[11] and the two expressed a mutual desire to see justice done against those who carried out the attacks in the Heartmoor and in Zephrah.[14] He requested, should Orym see Estani before he does, that Orym relay his regrets to Estani.[15]

Oshad attended the ball in Jrusar, along with Ela Lumas. He wore a breastplate and brought a cane that was implied to be a hidden weapon.[16]
