Oozes, also known as slimes,[3] are a category of creatures consisting of large, usually amorphous blobs or sludge.[2] Two types of oozes that have appeared on Critical Role include the black pudding[4] and the gelatinous cube.[5]
List of oozes
- Black pudding[6]
- Gelatinous cube[7]
- Ochre jelly[8]
History
In 810 PD, while on a mission in Kraghammer, Vox Machina heard from Foreman Hieris that slimes and oozes were among the mutated creatures to escape from the Greyspine Quarry. He reported that the oozes and slimes would mutate and rapidly change colors before spontaneously dissolving.[9] Later on while in the Underdark, Vox Machina battled black pudding after ambushing a group of ogres transporting the ooze creatures in glass.[10]
Oozes were among the monsters infesting the upper levels of Gatshadow Mountain after the death of the black dragon Umbrasyl.[11]
In 836 PD, the Mighty Nein discovered and battled a gelatinous cube in the abandoned research facility of the necromancer Siff Duthar.[12] Later on, while in Eiselcross, the Mighty Nein fought black pudding after the rest of the party followed a Feather Falling Veth Brenatto into an icy cave.[13]
As of about 836 PD, ochre jellies prowl the Betrayers' Rise.[8]
During the heist of the Twilight Mirror Museum in Heartmoor Hamlet, Bells Hells encountered a gelatinous cube-type creature forming the floor of a room into which Chetney Pock O'Pea fell and was pulled from before being entirely engulfed, but not before taking significant acid damage.[14]
