Omentis, Scion of Ruin, is the name of a terrifying abyssal creature.
Description[]
Omentis was 35 feet tall and had a black and purple body made of shadows, with tendrils and lithe limbs with clawed hands, two massive horns, and red eyes glowing like the round symbol in its forehead. It emanated an acrid smell and a sense of doom.[2]
History[]
Omentis was a terrifying creature that was created in the Abyss and became known in Exandria before or during the Calamity. At some point, it was sealed in an Athtiri Menthal that ended up in the Archive of the Cobalt Soul in Rexxentrum.[3]
In 843 PD, Trent Ikithon, escaped from prison thanks to the magical disruption caused by the apogee solstice, managed to sneak into the Archive of the Cobalt Soul in Rexxentrum, and get hold of the relic that contained Omentis, as well as some Adrenus sap.
The archmage attempted to orchestrate a meeting with Caleb Widogast in Blumenthal, but when the situation stopped going in the former master's favor, he used the Athtiri Menthal to release the essence of Omentis and bind it to himself. The Scion of Ruin formed an enormous demonic-like body around Trent and fought the Mighty Nein, with the sealing device still in its chest. When the adventurers noticed, they started attacking the artifact (with Caduceus Clay even using Divine Intervention to turn the monster's body translucent and make the item more easy to detect), until Beauregard Lionett managed to separate it from Omentis; this caused the Athtiri Menthal to reabsorb its bound entity, as well as Trent Ikithon, and became resealed and intact, even after some hits. Caleb decided to sent the device to his own Demiplane to keep it safe.[4]
Character information[]
Abilities[]
Omentis was able to siphon the life force of the people around it.[5] In combat, it manifested the following abilities:
- AC of 24[6]
- DC 24[7][8][9]
- Cold resistance[10]
- Void Hunger, probably the same ability that siphoned life force[11]
- Ire of Oblivion - dealt 150 force damage to one target with a Dex save[12]
- Legendary Actions:

Trivia[]
- The mini to represent Omentis was designed by Tyler Walpole, an artist that has been involved in Critical Role projects before.[15] The sculpt was made by Axolote Gaming, and painted by Iron Tusk Painting.[16]
- The fact that this entity is called a "scion" suggests that it was created/spawned by a relevant entity related to ruin.
- A possible origin is that Omentis, like many other elements of the Abyss, was created by Tharizdun the Chained Oblivion, a demonic deity of destruction, which would make the Scion of Ruin some sort of abyssal demigod. Although this has not been confirmed yet, facts in favor of this parentage are that Trent said he had been called to the Archive of the Cobalt Soul to "take of its blessing and release one of its forgotten nightmares"[17] (with the Chained Oblivion being known for communicating and manipulating people in Exandria this way), and also one of the abilities Omentis displayed, which is called Ire of Oblivion.
- When Beauregard was trying to recall her knowledge of beings that could possibly be inside the Athtiri Menthal, along with Omentis she considered Kythora, the Terror from the West, and Taish'tval, the Great Unending Fire.[18]
- Matt confirmed that a possible plan for Omentis was for it to be freed in the middle of Blumenthal as a distraction so Trent could escape, forcing the Mighty Nein to choose between defeating the monster or chasing the villain.[19]
