The Oderan Wilds (pronounced /oʊˈdɪərən/) is a region on the northwest of Marquet, characterized by a jungle valley surrounded by the Serpentwind Peaks.

Description[]

The Oderan Wilds are a shadowy rainforest populated by towns and cities connected by the dangerous Honored Trails. The capital of the Wilds is Jrusar.[2] The region also includes the city of Evishi, near which various kinds of trolls live,[3] and the Heartmoor, the lowest-elevation place in the Wilds, where water collects and supports an unusual bounty of plant life[4] and where dangerous creatures like bog spiders live.[5] Simurghs are native to the region.[6] Its vegetation is largely comprised of plants that lack medicinal qualities, such as large ferns.[7] There are also poisonous fungi, such as the 3 ft tall gray and purple mushroom Chetney encountered.[8]

The jungles of the Wilds have a connection to the Feywild.[9] Ariks Eshteross warned Bells Hells not to depart from the Honored Trails during their journey to the Heartmoor, saying that the Wilds "have many alluring mysteries within, but they are known superstitiously to have shifted and changed based on whatever entities call those places home....The Trails are the most safe."[10]

Races shown to be common in the Oderan Wilds which have not been shown to be common in Tal'Dorei or Wildemount include eisfuura, katari, pachydans, and uniya. Orcs seem to live more as they do in the Kryn Dynasty than as they do in the Dwendalian Empire, the Menagerie Coast, or elsewhere that campaigns have been set.

Cyclopes indigenous to the Serpentwind Peaks occasionally delve into the Wilds when they can't find enough food in their hunting grounds.[11]

History[]

Relics of ancient times are rumored to exist deep in the jungle.[12] Near the Heartmoor Hamlet, there are elvish ruins created in the Calamity.[13] These ruins are presumably from the same society as the ruins of Cael Morrow, the Drowned City, beneath Ank'Harel.[14]
