O'Noa was the first major human city on the continent of Tal'Dorei, following the Calamity. It was destroyed in the Scattered War and deliberately left in ruin. By 812 PD, a small group of outlaws had created New O'Noa on the same site.[2]

Description[]

O'Noa sits in the Daggerbay, along the Bladeshimmer Shoreline. The land is cursed by the arcane magic used during the Scattered War and is barren. The buildings are primarily in ruins, although some small shacks have been erected by those who now make it their home.[2]

Society[]

O'Noa is officially still abandoned, but a small society of the looters, thieves, and various criminals living among the ruins has arisen and calls itself New O'Noa. The New O'Noans encourage the idea that the location is still merely a ruin, and either hide from or bribe anyone coming from Emon to investigate rumors of their society's existence.[2]

Demographics[]

In 812 PD, the new O'Noa had the population of 336 individuals. 85% of them were humans with 15% of other races.[2]

By 836 PD, the population of the new O'Noa decresed to 310 individuals. The majority are still human (83%), with 17% of other races.[3]

Notable People[]

History[]

The port of O'Noa was originally founded by humans sailing west from Issylra, as the site of their landfall. Prior to and during the time of the Kingdom of Drassig, the city grew wealthy, but was supplanted in importance by Emon, which had a superior port (compared to Daggerbay, with its treacherous Slumber Reef) and more fertile farmland. Though the rapacious, clear-cutting practices of the colonizing humans created tensions with the elves of Syngorn,[1] the Daggerbay Mountains shielded the Verdant Expanse from the burgeoning colonies.[4] The elves secretly built the Emerald Outpost east of O'Noa (and southeast of Emon) to keep an eye on the growing empire of Drassig.[5]

During the Scattered War, this disputed city was destroyed in one of the most violent battles of an already brutal war. The battle permanently imbued the area with arcane magic, and after the war ended both Syngorn and the newly founded Kingdom of Tal'Dorei agreed to leave the barren, cursed city in ruins as a monument to the devastation of the Scattered War.[2]

Within the centuries following the war, O'Noa has frequently been looted, and the ruins used as shelter by various outlaws, which eventually led to the creation of New O'Noa.[2]
