The New Nobles[1] was a group of antagonists who assisted the Briarwoods in taking over Whitestone and were rewarded with titles and land under the new reign.[2]

Members[]

History[]

Occupation of Whitestone[]

In 805 PD, the evil Lord and Lady Briarwood led a coup d'etat in which all members of the city's ruling family, the de Rolos, were killed except for Percival de Rolo, who escaped, and Cassandra de Rolo, who was captured. The Briarwoods took over the city, and during this occupation, due to the city's remoteness and isolation, the citizens of Whitestone suffered without external aid for six years.[3]

The New Nobles were mercenaries that the Briarwoods brought with them from Wildemount in order to seize Whitestone. When they had successfully taken over, they were given titles, land, and power over the citizens of the town. Duke Goran Vedmire was placed in charge of the temple of the Dawnfather, and Count Tylieri was in charge of timber production.[4]

"Consequences and Cows" (1x26)[]

In late 810 PD, Vox Machina, of which Percival had become a member, first heard of Count Tylieri from young Desmond Otham, the Briarwoods' carriage driver who had previously worked under Tylieri. Desmond claimed to have been beaten while employed under Tylieri. Eventually Lord Briarwood had noticed this and persuaded Desmond to tell him what had happened. The next morning, Desmond saw Count Tylieri hanging from the Sun Tree.[5] Some time after this, Count Tylieri rose as a vampire.

During the rebellion[]

"Stoke the Flames" (1x30)[]

As Vox Machina arrived in Whitestone, Percival suggested, first of all, they should eliminate Kerrion Stonefell. The group reached his mansion, bent a section of the barred fence, and entered the building, appearing just in time to surprise Kerrion. He was in the middle of the conversation with Vouk Strono, discussing the group and the necessary preparations the guards would make before Vox Machina would reach the city. Vox Machina killed Stonefell and two guards, and incapacitated Master Vouk. During the fight, smoke began billowing from Percy's body, and as Stonefell died, his name disappeared from The List, advancing Percy's contract with a shadowy creature eventually revealed to be Orthax.

This is for the de Rolos. And let me say, you are the one I was least looking forward to.

The next day, Vox Machina decided to split up, with Scanlan creating a distraction at the Vedmire estate, while the rest attacked Count Tylieri's mansion.

Scanlan, polymorphed as a triceratops, rampaged through the Vedmire mansion and stumbled on an ambush of eight guards and Duke Goran Vedmire. Dropping the dinosaur form, he Dimension Doored onto the roof, setting the mansion ablaze with a Potion of Fire Breathing. Duke Goran Vedmire joined him there, but was quickly shoved off the roof with Bigby's Hand. As Scanlan absconded from the mansion, a zombie giant stomped towards him but was swarmed by a number of Whitestone residents who had armed themselves with makeshift weapons and armor. As Scanlan watched the undead giant, he decided to wait and watch the citizens' fight rather than rejoining his comrades.

The rest of Vox Machina began their assault on Count Tylieri's mansion, discovering that Tylieri was a vampire, and that he had planned an ambush backed by ten guards. After a long battle, Trinket bit off Tylieri's head and the vampire's mist form was destroyed by Keyleth's Sunbeam.

Denouement[]

After the Briarwoods were slain and their forces defeated, the two final members of the New Nobles, Goran Vedmire and Jazna Graben, were brought before Vox Machina. Scanlan proposed that they be made work to rebuild the city. Vedmire accepted, while the defiant Graben was executed.
