Nahla[2] is a nymph living in the Feywild who saved Grog Strongjaw's life. As an NPC, Nahla is played by Matthew Mercer.

Description[]

Appearance[]

Nahla is a nymph with a beautiful, water-colored female form.[3]

Personality[]

Biography[]

Background[]

While in the Frostweald, Grog Strongjaw entered a portal alone to retrieve an item. Nahla was on the other side protecting it. Instead of attacking him, she liked what she saw.[4][5] After a while, Grog returned looking quite satisfied with himself while holding the item that Vox Machina needed.[6]

"The Feywild" (1x59)[]

Vox Machina encountered Nahla again when they emerged in her glade upon entering the Feywild, in their pursuit of Fenthras, Wrath of the Fey Warden, one of the Vestiges of the Divergence. Keyleth attracted the nymph's attention upon picking a flower in Nahla's glade, and upon emerging her sheer beauty struck Percy blind. By way of apology Nahla cast Barkskin on Percy, and his blindness was subsequently cured by Pike Trickfoot's Greater Restoration spell.

Upon finding out from Grog that he had used her heart to save his life (used by Eskil Ryndarien to remove a lich's phylactery that was embedded in his chest), she expressed gladness that he survived and stated that she would begin making a new heart.

Relationships[]

Grog Strongjaw[]

Nahla invited Grog into her sanctuary, and after a while the goliath emerged looking quite satisfied and holding the item Vox Machina needed—the heart of the nymph.[7] Several members of Vox Machina have speculated that he had sex with her, but it was later revealed by Travis and Matt in "Talks Machina: Campaign Wrap-up" (Sx31) that while she had straddled him after pushing him against a slab, there were no moments of intimacy. She had only done so in order to bequeath her heart.[8]

Abilities[]

  • Spells:
  • Aquatic Invisibility: Nahla can make herself invisible if immersed in her pool. She remains invisible until she leaves the water.[13]
  • Blinding Beauty:[14] Creatures that can see her up close, on a failed Constitution saving throw (DC equal to or less than 21), are permanently blinded.[15]
    • She can't undo this blindness by herself,[16] but spells such as Greater Restoration can restore the afflicted creature's vision within about 15 seconds.[17]
    • Eskil Ryndarien explained to Vox Machina that nymphs can cause even worse effects to those who contemplate their beauty.[18]
  • Can summon a mobile vine.[19]

  • Nahla is bound to the glade where she lives,[20] and although she does influence the plantlife in the area, she seems to have more affinity with the pool of that part of the forest, living in it and showing a similar coloration in her body.[21] Matt once described her as a dryad (a forest nymph), but quickly corrected himself and called her simply a nymph.[22]
