The Mythcarver is a legendary longsword with a silvered blade that resonates with musical tones. It is one of the mystical artifacts known as the Vestiges of Divergence.
History[]
The Mythcarver was forged in the flying city of Zemniaz, as a collaboration between a master arcanist and blacksmith and the champion who would become its first wielder; she was an astonishing singer, and she wove songs and magic into the blade with each fold of metal.[1]
Critical Role[]
The Vestige was wielded by many master bards until it ended up in the hands of the legendary founder of the Golden Grin, the White Duke.[2] Before the White Duke died, he gifted the Mythcarver to the androsphinx Kamaljiori, who in turn awarded it to Vox Machina to aid in their fight against the Chroma Conclave.[3] Possession of the Mythcarver passed to Scanlan Shorthalt.[4]
While fighting a pit fiend named Ghurrix in the City of Brass, Scanlan managed to bring the sword to its full power by remembering and acting on his promise to Kaylie that he would stay alive.[5] The glowing blade granted him four consecutive attacks with advantage, thanks to his Cutting Words, with which he slew the fiend.[6]
The Legend of Vox Machina[]
Similar to in Critical Role, the Mythcarver is initially in the possession of Kamaljiori, who agrees to give it to Scanlan Shorthalt. However, this is interrupted by Umbrasyl, who kills Kamaljiori and steals the sword. It is later recovered by Scanlan, who uses it to slay Umbrasyl.
