The Mossback Steward is an ancient, intelligent horizonback tortoise with magical abilites that dwells within Brokenveil Marsh.

The Mossback Steward is a massive horizonback tortoise with, as its name suggests, moss growing across its shell. Atop the shell's crown is a thicket of mangrove trees and brambles. When the Mossback Steward lies low and stationary, it appears to be an ordinary hill.[3]

The Mossback Steward has lived in Brokenveil Marsh for as long as anyone can remember, and is regarded as a figure of renown and mystery. Because of its long-term exposure to the eldritch magic of the marsh, the Mossback Steward has gained various magical abilities.[3]

Unwelcome Spirits[]

The adventuring party hired by Buhfal II to rescue Bol'bara from Fort Venture can encounter the Mossback Steward on their journey through the marsh. The Mossback Steward offers its wisdom and powers of divination to aid their quest.[3] It is also through the Mossback Steward that the party may learn how to exorcise Trush from Bol'bara to prevent her demon-possessed rampage.[4]
