"Monstrous races" was a term coined by humans in Tal'Dorei that referred to a variety of non-human but sentient creatures and races typically adversarial to humans and other humanoids.[1]

Description and history[]

The term "monstrous races" was coined by humans in Tal'Dorei during the reign of the Kingdom of Drassig. According to some sources, the term was an attempt to demonize anyone who resisted colonization, while other sources asserted that the term referred to the evil supposedly inherent in creatures regarded as such. Regardless of civility or intelligence, most "monstrous races" tended to attack humans and humanoids on sight, making negotiations difficult, but not impossible, as there have been cases of "monstrous races" making alliances with non-"monstrous races", out of either greed, desperation, or legitimate goodness.[1]
