Hey! I was wondering if you could help me with something. While adding the new Deity infobox the deity pages, I've also been renaming them to their names rather than their titles. This has worked fine for all of them except for the Stormlord page. When I tried to rename it, it told me that the page "Kord" already exists, and I found that someone has already made Kord redirect to Stormlord. I'd like to have it the other way around, with "Kord" being the main page, and "The Stormlord" be the redirect. Are you able to change this?
Hey! Going through the "backlog" right now while on my first watchthrough of CR, and I notice that a lot of the pages have really inconsistent formatting (how quotes are presented in episode pages, inventories, when to reference, just for some examples of my confusion). There are also things that aren't covered well, such as obtaining art credits, summary writing, and other nuances. While I'm doing this cleanup of old content, I was wondering if we could create a blog or page to go over these things, kind of like a newbie's guide to the CR Wiki for these things. I know that you have written an art credit blog post, Occidental and you have outlined what is past vs present tense, and I think there's a floating thing about wiki grammar; good starting points that we could potentially link to in the guide. Just an idea since the disaster known as the old inventory code astounds me.
It sounds like a great idea. I know things like the inventory section and the way to format/handle quotes have evolved over time and I don't think anyone's made a concerted effort to go back through the older articles to update them to today's formatting preferences.
Unfortunately with the Campaign restarting, it's not something I'm going to have the time to attack, but if you wanted to start something, I (and I'm sure others) would be happy to jump in with our own thoughts on "the way things ought to be done". We have a pretty-much unused category named "Help" that we could use to tag blog posts, etc. I just added it onto the art one I did, and maybe you could add it to your question about tenses? It'd just be a way to start gathering things for now, and if we get enough content I'll add a link under "Wiki Editing" so people can reference it.
Hi, I saw your comment about how you don't want me using the infobox anymore, and I completely understand. (1) I was thinking of marking a couple of those templates for deletion then so new people don't get confused between the two and it doesn't clutter up the wiki. If I were to do so, would you delete them for me? (2) Would it be OK if I coded the existing template so it would automatically add categories to the page? For example, creature type (abberation, beasts, constructs, fey, fiends, humanoids, monstrosities, undead), creature size, terrain/climate found, etc.? It would make the wiki more standardized and mean less work for people creating new pages.
My only concern is backwards compatibility. Would it result in double categories on pages already using it? If not, it sounds like a good idea to me.
If you send me a list of what pages you want deleted, I'd be happy to do it.
I'd have to test the backwards compatibility thing. I'll get back to you on the deletions.
Just a heads up: I might end up switching to another account because I'm thinking of making a more gender-neutral username, and I can't switch my username more than once. I'm also kind of embarrassed by the whole thing with the template, and maybe it would be better to have an account that other users wouldn't associate with that...
OK, all templates currently marked under Category:Candidates for deletion are ones I've nominated.
For the time being, I'm going to hold off on making any edits, since I'm feeling a little down about templates. But I am taking the time to learn both wikitext and Lua, since I've already started teaching myself over the past week and both seems similar enough to other languages I've worked with, so let me know if you ever want anything fancy done.
Sorry about that. I didn't notice that one of them was "foremAn" instead of "foremEn". I think I've taken the right one off now. To remove a category, just click "Edit" and in the toolbar on the right side of the editing field, you should see a list of categories. If you move your mouse over them, a pencil and a trashcan should appear. Just click the trashcan to remove, then publish. Be aware some categories are autogenerated by code elsewhere on the page and won't show up there - only the ones that someone's added by hand. I think.
Hi there! My name is Kylara and I'm the Wiki Manager for Critical Role Wiki. I'm here to help the community and be a liaison to full-time Fandom staff. If you ever have any questions or issues relating to the wiki, editing, layout, design, templates, or anything of the sort, please let me know!
I'm checking in to see how the community's doing, and I want to make sure that you catch these important Fandom updates.
The Unified Community Platform (UCP) is coming this year, which means that Fandom Wikis like this one will be getting some much-needed renovations (and new features!) as we move to an upgraded version of MediaWiki. Check out the Staff blog post UCP: The Vision, Purpose, and Process for information on the roll out plan, which will come out this year in stages.
The first stage will be starting very soon, with new wikis being created on the UCP. To stay up to date with these changes, you can keep an eye on the staff blogs on Community Central.
If you have any questions, feel free to comment on those blog posts or let me know!
