Merpal is a Zhelezo guard in Nicodranas. As an NPC, Merpal is played by Matthew Mercer.

Appearance[]
Merpal is a young human man, dressed in a manner that distinguishes him as a Zhelezo (clothing and/or armor of blue and green, matching the colors worn by other Zhelezo).
Personality[]
Merpal can be talkative and become easily enamored.[1] Beau selected him as being the more insecure-looking of the two guards at the docks,[2] as he appeared to be half-present in mid-daydream.[3]

Background[]
Merpal had allegedly once helped deal with a band of thieves at the docks prior to the arrival of the Mighty Nein in Nicodranas.[4]
"Encroaching Waters" (2x34)[]
Merpal was stationed at the Nicodranas docks, when Beau (as "Tracy") approached and flirted with him to get him to show her the entrance to the Sluice Weave. After some persuasion, he did so and gave a brief description of its use. When Mepal finished, he tried to arrange a date with "Tracy".

Merpal believes Beau to be "Tracy", a daughter of a wealthy family from Zadash on vacation in Nicodranas. Once he was approached by "Tracy", Merpal felt uneasy and awkward at her supposed advances. However, as the conversation went on, he opened up and tried to arrange a date later, which she hastily rebuffed.[5]

- Merpal's name comprises of the French word for Sea "Mer" and the English slang for friend "pal"; in essence, his name can be perceived to mean Sea Friend.
