Mephits are small creatures formed by the mix of different elemental energies.

Description[]

Mephits are tricksters by nature and like to dwell in places with the presence of one of the two elements that give them life.[1]

Appearance[]

Mephits are 2 feet tall, and very lithe, like skeletons with elven features and wings made of one element.[2]

Known types of mephits[]

Dust mephits[]

Dust mephits are composed of earth and air.

There are dust mephits in Terrah, seeking to undo the work of the Earth Ashari.[3]

Ice mephits[]

Ice mephits are composed of air and water.

In 835 PD Ziro and Glacies, two ice mephits, were near the ruins of Salsvault (an Aeorian laboratory), attracted by the cold magical energies of the vials of frigid woe inside.[4]

Magma mephits[]

Magma mephits are composed of earth and fire.

The firetamers of Pyrah are sometimes accompanied by magma mephits.[5]

Magma mephits can be found in the River Inferno in Eiselcross.[6] In 835 PD the volcanic activity beneath Kamordah caused some mischievous magma mephits to appear in the area and attack the locals.[7]

In 843 PD there was a small community of magma mephits created by the spark of the Emperor of Fire inside of the Chynes Maw, on the island of Igthuldus; these elementals were short-lived, led by whomever was considered the "Elder" of the group at the time. When Bells Hells visited their chamber, the mephits interacted with Fearne Calloway, and shared with the adventurers what they knew about the elemental relic they sought.[8] However, shortly after the druid and Ashton Greymoore recovered the artifact, all the mephits died.[9]

Smoke mephits[]

Smoke mephits are composed of air and fire.

The firetamers of Pyrah are sometimes accompanied by smoke mephits.[5]

Steam mephits[]

Steam mephits are composed of fire and water.

Between 835 and 836 PD Khedive Xundi (the marid freed from beneath Nicodranas) freed his fellow genie beneath Port Damali. The second marid, vengeful, summoned steam mephits daily, which altered the lives of the locals with their many pranks and mischief.[10]

Trivia[]

  • Although mud mephits exist in 5th Edition,[1] they haven't been mentioned in Critical Role yet.
