The Mending Wheel or Wheel of Mending is one of the artifacts Tiberius was looking for and eventually found before the campaign started streaming on Twitch as Critical Role. It allows the user to magically repair damaged items and gems.
Description[]
The Mending Wheel was described as resembling a large, spoked roulette wheel with points that folded out from the center. It functioned by placing an item in the center of the wheel and then spinning it, maintaining the spinning manually, which caused the item to regenerate to a physically undamaged state while floating without gravity. Due to this, the wheel could only mend relatively small items.
History[]
Pre-stream[]
Tiberius acquired the wheel when he and the party fell into an ancient cistern within Emon and were attempting to find their way out. They ended up discovering the ruins of a city where a hag was living. In exchange for a part of Tiberius's luck, she traded him the wheel. She showed them the way out and back to the surface after they slayed an umber hulk, in an encounter where Grog almost died.[1]
The Campaign of Vox Machina[]
The party found a damaged diamond in the cave near Yug'Voril. Tiberius repaired it using the Mending Wheel.[2]
After "Tiny" drank and smashed Grog's cask of ale, Tiberius used the wheel to repair it, restoring it to a pure, untouched, yet empty cask, to Grog's appreciation.[3]
The morning after the party returned to Greyskull Keep, Tiberius took 500 gold from the treasury, teleported to Draconia, and bought a Bag of Holding for himself. The first thing he did upon returning to the group was retrieve the Mending Wheel from Grog's bag and put it into his own.[4]
Tiberius mentioned in Vasselheim that the Mending Wheel was still in his Bag of Holding.[5]
While attempting to track Hotis through the Amaranthine Oubliette, the divided party attempted to use their carpet's flying ability to traverse a large pit of acid. Due to a magic-cancelling rune trap on the sides of the room, the carpet's magic was temporarily disabled, plunging it into acid. Salvaging the carpet, Tiberius quickly attempted to repair it using his Mending Wheel. While he was able to repair the carpet physically, it lost its flying enchantment and became nothing but a normal rug, to the sorcerer's acute frustration.[6]
