Maya was the seven-year-old daughter of Cerrit Agrupnin. As an NPC in Exandria Unlimited: Calamity, Maya is played by Brennan Lee Mulligan.

Description[]

Like her father, Maya was an eisfuura. Although her age was initially given as 7 years old at the time of the events of Exandria Unlimited: Calamity,[3] her speech and actions were more like those of a teenager, perhaps because of the shorter lifespan and consequent earlier maturation of the eisfuura race.[4] She was later described as a young teenager with a little bit of awkward plumage molt around her neck,[5] and when Patia Por'co asked Cerrit how old she was, he told her she was 14.[6]

Maya had an incredible talent for history.[7] Her mother Wrayne was a brilliant scientist.[8]

Biography[]

Children of Avalir - Shrugs

On the eve of the Replenishment, Kir and his sister Maya had been left alone by their parents, their mother being away due to professional requirements and their father Cerrit having duties connected to the impending landing of Avalir. Maya snuck out of the house to a Replenishment party being held at the Sorcerer's University.[9] She was clandestinely followed there by her younger brother Kir, who reported to Cerrit via sending stone that Maya was talking to a girl with blue hair at the party, and that they were drinking "stuff".[10] Cerrrit told Kir to bring Maya back to their home, where Cerrit planned to join them. Cerrit had found two Runes of Recall attuned to the children's mother that were clutched in the hand of his slain assistant Orwyn.[11]

When Cerrit reached his home and his children amid the chaos of the burning city, he promised them he would someday tell them all about what was happening outside. However, Maya noticed that his Ring of Honor was glowing, detecting the falsehood. He assured them everything was fine and gave them the Runes of Recall but they sensed something was badly wrong. Frightened and crying, they didn't want to leave him. Telling them how much he loved them, Cerrit closed their hands on the runes, breaking and activating them, and the children vanished.[12]

As one of her final actions before the confrontation at the Tree of Names, Patia Por'co used Teleport to send her Sphere of Power containing all her accumulated knowledge and memories to Maya.[13] Maya told her father via the sending stones that she had gotten "some kind of orb".[14]

In the final moments of Avalir, Cerrit's family, through the sending stone, told him they were all safe in Gwessar, where he was able to join them.[15] Although Cerrit wasn't able to give his children the world that they deserved, he gave them a world that they could fight for with him.[16]

Quotations[]

  • Maya points to your hand and says, "Dad, why is your ring glowing?"[19]

Trivia[]

  • A popular fan theory that Marisha Ray likes is that eventually the orb that Patia Por'co sent to Maya containing all the knowledge of Avalir would have helped creating the Cobalt Reserve, with Cerrit Agrupnin's job influencing the work that future expositors would have to do.[20]
    • Aabria Iyengar, on the other hand, prefers the theory that Wrayne (Maya's mom) was doing a research with the Qoniira Tetrarchy, and that their family took refuge there, making it possible for both them and the knowledge of the orb to survive the Calamity in Niirdal-Poc.[21]
