Marlath was a dragonborn survivor of the final battle of the Calamity at the Rybad-Kol prison in which he was held. As an NPC, Marlath was played by Brennan Lee Mulligan.
Description[]
Marlath was a very tall and opportunistic tailed bronze dragonborn.[2]
Biography[]
Background[]
Marlath was a loyal servant of the Scaled Tyrant who worked in areas ruled by the Strife Emperor[3] as a harbor administrator, being skilled in keeping ledgers and mercantile affairs.[4] He eventually arrived at Rybad-Kol as an envoy to provide information about other dragonborn, in return for a promise of great treasure, but ended up being captured alongside the people he had exposed.[5]
"Give and Take" (E4x01)[]
Marlath was among the dragonborn prisoners at Rybad-Kol when it was destroyed during one of the final battles of the Calamity. After the prison was for the most part destroyed, Marlath was silent and stunned, quietly panicking, and apparently looking for advantage.
"Seven of Them" (E4x02)[]
Marlath approached Fiedra Marrow shortly after arriving at Torm's Hill, suggesting that after the state of emergency passed, they might work together to set up systems the people there would rely on.[6] Soon after he found parchment and ink and started creating a ledger to write down whoever took tools brought by the Bowdley brothers, three halfling thieves; he spoke to them and told Fiedra that they seemed open to the possibility of doing business with them, and that they could potentially use debts amongst the townsfolk, as well as their inability to do repairs, to profit. He was told to come back to the Roaches after sundown, out of town, and he agreed. When the moment arrived he met with the Roaches in the forest, bringing all his documents with him. Fiedra took them, but then she gave the signal, and Taveen and Otto grabbed Marlath as Crokas stepped on his tail and opened his mouth. The gang leader reminded him of how he had sold his own people (including Crokas) and had been planning to take advantage of refugees; after declaring that he talked too much, she cut his tongue and threw it away. Crokas then closed his maw and walked away, telling him he had to keep an eye on that wound. Marlath desperately started looking for the severed tongue, and as he was doing so Otto kicked him, telling him he wasn't a good person.

Quotations[]

Fan art of Marlath angering the cast, by Elaine Tipping.[art 1]
- "This is chaos. And therefore, represents a tremendous opportunity."[7]
- (smiling at Fiedra's stiletto) "Quickly armed. I need to find some parchment, ink, and quill, so that I may be likewise armed."[8]
Trivia[]
- Brennan Lee Mulligan revealed he had a small scene in mind for Marlath that he forgot to present, in which one of the halflings that had brought tools to town would say that people wouldn't take too many things (making the dragonborn's list unnecessary), and Marlath would have responded that he would take too much, if he was in their situation.[9]
