Malcolm Trills is "a former soldier accustomed to conflict now keeping a watchful eye over Red Lamp, with a helpful hand for those in need."[3] He is played by Imari Williams.
Description[]
Malcolm is "the muscle with a heart of gold."[4] Years of military service have ingrained into him habits of order, neatness, and routine.[5] He deals with stress or trauma by compartmentalization and maintains a stoic, calm demeanor.[6]
Malcolm works at various jobs in the Red Lamp District as a bouncer or ad hoc peacekeeper, but his primary position and home is at the Glass Cat Casino working for Madam Cordelia Glask.[7]
Biography[]
Background[]
Malcolm's family is old, wealthy, powerful, and not very loving. The men tend to enter the military and the women run the businesses, while the family consolidates its power and prestige in Newfaire by intermarrying with other equally rich and connected families. They are ingrained both in the Periphery and the Ascendancy, and Malcolm's father is a power in the Parliament as well as having an association with EONS, a society seeking to advance and promote alchemy. Much of the family's wealth comes from the manufacture of weapons.[8]
Malcolm is a former soldier who survived a great tragedy during the War.[9] His unit was sent to investigate a glowing artifact which evaporated the whole squad, but Malcolm reached for one of them with his left hand and it was partially disintegrated. He now wears a copper prosthetic on that hand that allows him almost normal functionality,[10] a gift from his family in the Eaves before their relationship broke down.[11]
