Makenzie "Mak" De Armas is an associate game designer at Wizards of the Coast.

She is a writer on Critical Role: Call of the Netherdeep, a campaign module published by Wizards of the Coast. Some of her work on Call of the Netherdeep is inspired by her Filipino heritage, and she described the ability see the setting reflect her Southeast Asian identity as "important and cathartic".[1][2]

Among her other work, De Armas was a lead writer on Islands of Sina Una published by Hit Point Press,[3] a designer on Wizard of the Coast's The Dark Tides of Bilgewater tie-in with Legends of Runeterra,[4] and a designer on Matthew Colville's Kingdoms & Warfare.[5] Since September 2020, she also appears as a player on Creature Collectors, an actual play produced by Critical Bard,[6] who produced the theme for Critter Hug.

She first became interested in Dungeons & Dragons by binging Critical Role in her university apartment.[7]

When writing Ank'Harel content for #Netherdeep, we wanted the city to feel cosmopolitan without monolithizing any cultures. So, there are folks in Ank'Harel who hail from south/west Marquet—areas inspired by my Filipino heritage." (2021-10-19).

Matt was gracious enough to trust me with part of his world, and I'm beyond thrilled to have gotten the chance to include facets of my identity in this setting." (2021-10-18). See also, the follow-up tweet: You'll see more once Call of the #Netherdeep is released, but all I can say for now is that I legitimately cried a little while writing this stuff. Seeing my Southeast Asian identity reflected in such a major fantasy setting is so important and cathartic. I'm so damn grateful.
