The Maelstrom Gloves are a set of studded leather glove-like gauntlets. When used, electricity charges up through the embedded studs and arcs between them.[1]
Description
The Maelstrom Gloves are heavy gloves that stop beneath the fingers, having gauntlet plates above the guard. Metal studs are set across each knuckle and organized across the back of the hand, where the electrical charge is gathered. They end at the wrist. When found, they were massive, but when Beau attuned to them they shrunk to fit her hands.[2].
When activated (1 time/day)[3] at the start of a turn, the gloves give +1 to unarmed attack and damage rolls, and can channel atmospheric electricity through them extending the wearer's reach to 20 feet for one minute. Attacks made at range beyond the user's typical melee range deal lightning damage instead of bludgeoning damage.[4] Once the minute-long effect has ended, the lightning charge remains if it has not been expended, causing 6d6 additional lightning damage on a hit.[5]
History
The gloves were recovered from the body of the red minotaur-like winged demonic creature the Mighty Nein encountered under the well in Asarius.[6]
While fighting the golem in the Happy Fun Ball, Beau utilized the lightning feature by slamming her fists together. Lightning began to charge around them, with purple lightning arcing between her gloves and the energy device behind her. Beau took two points of lightning damage, but the gloves were thrumming in power.[7]
