The Lotusden Greenwood is vast, leafy forest along the southern portion of the Ashkeeper Peaks on the eastern (Xhorhasian) side of the mountains. It is surrounded by swampland.[2]

Description[]

The Lotusden is considered a very dangerous forest, home of uncontrolled, corrupted fey magic.[3] It is a darkened wood, unlike those of the more arid regions of northern Xhorhas. The woods are dense, and myths and tales speak of regions of it that are cursed, where the woods themselves move and shift without notice.[4]

The forest is fertile and misty, filled with carnivorous plants and enormous creatures. There is an ancient druidic fane buried within the forest that has caused some of this unnatural growth.[1]

At its northern edge lies the druidic enclave of Charis, a city of Lotusden halflings and the more recently arrived dragonborn refugees who fled the destruction of Draconia.[5]

Notable Locations[]

Mouldered Grove[]

In the center of the Mouldered Grove, a region of leafless deadwoods, sits the Wraithroot Tree. When Caduceus communed with The Wildmother, she told him to "beware the bark that bites."[6] The adventure hook Mother's Milk in the Explorer's Guide to Wildemount implies this may be the location of the lair of a coven of hags.[1]

History[]

Campaign Two: The Mighty Nein[]

"Between the Lines" (2x78)[]

The Mighty Nein returned to the Valley Archive of the Cobalt Soul in Zadash after the attack of the Angel of Irons cult. The group did substantial research, discovering that the Lotusden Greenwood was a cursed forest south of Xhorhas and that Jourrael, who could not be killed, had been bisected at the end of the Calamity, with her heart sealed in the Lotusden and her head in Veluthil. Jester then Scryed on Yasha and saw her pushing through a dense forest. They decided that they urgently needed to try to stop Yasha's party from reuniting the severed portions of Jourrael and Jester Sent to Essek Thelyss, who agreed to transport them directly to the Lotusden.

"Through the Trees" (2x79)[]

After a brief stop in the Xhorhaus to meet with Essek, the party teleported deep into the Lotusden. Caduceus cast Commune and learned that the object they sought was to the southwest but Obann's party was ahead of them. Traveling in pursuit after using Speak with Dead, the party learned that Obann was seeking the Wraithroot Tree in the Moldered Grove. After a short rest, a Polymorphed Jester and Caleb flew the group southward. The party landed nearby Obann's group and followed them discreetly to the Wraithroot tree. The tree attacked Obann (although he was able to retrieve a glowing blue crystal from it) and the Nein used the opportunity to attack as well. When Obann and Yasha Nydoorin Plane Shifted out, the Mighty Nein Teleported to Rosohna.
