Many different languages are spoken across Exandria. Common is the most widely spoken among humanoids, though most races also have their own language.

Magic is sometimes used to speak and understand languages that a person or creature does not otherwise know.

Many creatures can understand languages, but not speak them. Some, such as kenku, can speak only through mimicry.


Abyssal

Abyssal is the language of demonic creatures. Of the player characters, known speakers include Vax'ildan,[1] Vex'ahlia,[2] and Yasha Nydoorin.[3]

Celestial

Celestial is a language spoken mainly by celestials and aasimar. Of the player characters, known speakers include Percival de Rolo,[4] Caleb Widogast,[5] and Yasha.[6]

Common

Common is the most widespread language in Exandria, and the primary language of humans.

Deep Speech

Deep Speech is the language of aberrations, such as mind flayers and beholders. Of the player characters, known speakers include Beauregard Lionett.[7]

Draconic

Draconic is the language of dragons, and is also spoken by dragonborn. Of the player characters, known speakers include Taryon Darrington,[8] Tiberius Stormwind,[9] and Vex'ahlia.[10]

Druidic

Druidic is the private language of druids. Of the player characters, known speakers include Keyleth[11] and Vax'ildan.[11]

Dwarvish

Dwarvish is the language of the dwarves. Of the player characters, known speakers include Grog Strongjaw (while wearing the Belt of Dwarvenkind),[12] Pike Trickfoot,[13] Tiberius,[14] and Beau.[15]  

Elvish

Elvish is the language of the elves, and is also spoken by most half-elves. Of the player characters, known speakers include Keyleth], Percival de Rolo,[16] Vax'ildan,[1] Vex'ahlia,[17] Caduceus Clay,[18] and Beauregard.[19]

Giant

Giant is the language spoken by giants and goliaths. Of the player characters, known speakers include Grog[20] and Caduceus.[21]

Gnomish

Gnomish is the language of gnomes. Of the player characters, known speakers include Pike Trickfoot,[22], Scanlan Shorthalt, [23] and Taryon.[24]

Goblin

The Goblin language is mainly spoken by goblins and goblinkin. Of the player characters, known speakers include Veth Brenatto.[25]

Halfling

Halflings speak their own language, which is also called Halfling. Of the player characters, known speakers include Beau[28] and Veth.[29]

Infernal

Infernal is the language spoken by devils and tieflings. Of the player characters, known speakers include Jester Lavorre and Mollymauk Tealeaf.

Marquesian

Marquesian is a language spoken in Marquet. Of the player characters, known speakers include Scanlan Shorthalt.[30]

Naush

Naush is the language spoken by the Ki'Nau peoples.

Orc

Orc is a language spoken by orcs and half-orcs. Of the player characters, known speakers include Fjord.

Primordial

The primordial languages are spoken by elemental creatures. Each element has its own dialect: Aquan (water), Auran (air), Ignan (fire), and Terran (earth). Of the player characters, known speakers include Keyleth.[34]

Sylvan

Sylvan is the primary language of fey creatures. Of the player characters, known speakers include Keyleth,[35] Taryon,[36] Caleb,[37] and Caduceus.[38]

Thieves' Cant

Thieves' Cant is less a language in its own right and more of a coded form of communication, usually between thieves. Of the player characters, known speakers include Veth,[39] Beau,[40] Vax'ildan,[39] and Vex'ahlia.[39]

Undercommon

Undercommon is a language spoken by creatures of the Underdark, including the drow. Of the player characters, known speakers include Pike,[41] Taryon,[42] Vex'ahlia,[43] and Beau.[44]

Zemnian

Zemnian is a language spoken in the Zemni Fields. Zemnian is analogous to the real-world German language. Of the player characters, known speakers include Caleb.[45]
