The Kreviris Imperium, most commonly known simply as the Imperium, was one of the political forces on the moon of Ruidus, led by a group called the Weave Mind which connected the inhabitants to the slumbering Predathos.[2]
History[]
The Imperium had existed since at least 340 PD, or 500 years ago during the events of Campaign Three.[1] According to Rashinna, the leader of the Volition, there were at least four points in history where Ruidian society "had to be reset", and the city of Kreviris itself had been completely rebuilt at least twice with the central Prime Pillar being the only thing remaining from earlier iterations.[3]
At one time there were several societies in various locations on the moon, distinct from the Imperium, known as "The Collective". The tension between the Imperium and The Collective was broken almost 300 years ago when The Crush (a series of severe earthquakes) destroyed The Collective's ability to defend itself, and they voluntarily surrendered in an attempt to save their peoples.[4] When the Imperium took power, it purposefully destroyed most written records of this time.[5][6]
At some point between its founding and 843 PD, the Imperium, the Weave Mind, and other communal sects associated with it found and destroyed all written records about the origins and history of the bormodo people.[7] They also established dream connections between their citizens and "The Beating Heart", Predathos.[8] As of around 803 PD, Ruidians from outside the capital, such as Barthie, were allowed to visit Kreviris, but only if they were properly escorted.[9]
Shortly before 843 PD, the Imperium and the Ruby Vanguard became allies, and during the apogee solstice, after the activation of the Malleus Key, many Reilora aligned with them were sent to Exandria to help the Ruidusborn and the forces under Ludinus Da'leth's command. However, when Imogen Temult, an Exaltant working against the Vanguard, Summoned a Hex Mind, the reilora revealed to her that not every member of her species was part of the Imperium, and thus not all worked with Ludinus.[10]
When Bells Hells traveled to Ruidus, they found Razora, a village in which the guards were reilora wearing garments similar to those of the Imperium.[11] There they learned that the Imperium had recently sent agents to the area (such as Willmaster Edmuda) demanding that they double the production of resources for the capital and their allies.[12]
During interrogation Edmuda explained that her people dreamed of traveling to Exandria and creating a new home there. They believed if Predathos were freed, the gods wouldn't be able to aid Exandrians in opposing this.[13] According to Rashinna, the Imperium had been promoting excitement about the activity of the Ruby Vanguard and the possibility of Predathos being released, the implications being that if that happened, people aligned with them would be on their way to the Blue Promise, thus avoiding anything that happened to the red moon.[14]
During the great battle between the defenders of the Red Center and the armies of the Exandrian Accord, the Imperium continued sending soldiers through the Bloody Bridge to help their allies and the Sunder King, while the Weave Mind themselves intervened in the battlefield through strange tower-like devices.[15] When the Luxon beacon was removed from the Malleus Key, the Bloody Bridge shut down, preventing more troops from reaching Exandria, freeing Ruidus to orbit the planet once again, and releasing the tangled ley lines.[16] However, the Weave Mind retained the ability to enter the minds of the reilora already there and act through them.[17] Later that same day the Weave Mind were killed by the Mighty Nein after the Volition helped them access the Arx Creonum.[18] The Imperium fell and was replaced by the Krevirian Republic.[19]
Political departments[]
Weave Mind[]
The Weave Mind is a council of extremely old and powerful Reiloran mystics that act as a conduit to Predathos's mind. They are the ones that "usher the flares," control the city, and tell others the design they must follow. They act as a conduit and connect the population to the dreams and to Predathos; despite this, they have forbidden the use of the latter's name on pain of torture and death. The belief is that if The One Who Sleeps were to wake, everyone on Ruidus would be transported to Exandria.[20]
According to Petrov Godo, they are able to turn Exaltants into fully realized versions of themselves, completely in control.[21]
Dominion of Cruth[]
The military and law enforcement arm of the Imperium,[22] led by the Sunder King Ozo Cruth.[23] Its disciplinary division, The Will, sends enforcers to control matters such as the production of resources in towns like Razora.[24]
Ozo Cruth's bloodline is also known for their psychic connection with the beasts of Ruidus, and in their service they have slitherlords, wormlords and vidulchlords, among others.[25]
The Tectus[]
The Tectus is the political arm of the government. It exists in a middle ground between the Dominion and the Weave Mind, and contains frequently paranoid and self-serving politicians that impose their will on the street level of Kreviris, as well as a few members who are secretly aligned with Volition.[26][27]
Other institutions[]
Colloquium of Candescense[]
Academic in nature, it offers employment to scientists.[28]
Trivia[]
- Imperium means "empire" in Latin.
- Based on Barthie's descriptions and Edmuda's attitude, the Imperium, even if it has people of different races, seems to consider the reilora and/or the inhabitants of the capital as their most important citizens, and this is reflected in the Willmaster's willingness to pressure and even manipulate the villagers of Razora for her benefit.
- Higher ranking reilorans apparently have disdain for verbal speech,[29] so telepathy and its use may denote social status, thus making any non-telepathic race "lesser" in the eyes of the Imperium. Conversely, lower ranking reilora like the juggernauts, purposely designed for physical combat, no longer have telepathy.[30]
