Bookkeeper Khime (pronounced like "KEEM")[4] is an orc mage who worked as an enchanter for hire and worked the Omnival Library in Ank'Harel's Sigil District in 811 PD; he managed the library as of 836 PD. As an NPC, Khime is played by Matthew Mercer.
Description[]
Appearance[]
In 811 PD, Khime was a shifty-looking man with thinning, slicked-back hair, a pointed nose, shallow features, and a mustache and goatee. He wore long, plain robes with a satchel over the shoulder.[5]
Personality[]
In 811 PD, Khime seemed highly mistrustful, to the point of paranoia.[6]
By 836 PD, Khime's penchant for conspiracy theories made him exceptionally observant and a great source of information about current events in Ank'Harel.[1] He correctly believed the Sentinels of Memory would stop at nothing to protect Ank'Harel from whatever lurks in Cael Morrow, and that the Sentinels were working with the Consortium of the Vermilion Dream against the Allegiance of Allsight.[7]
Biography[]
"The Chase to Glintshore" (1x67)[]
In 811 PD, Khime worked at the Omnival Library in Ank'Harel.[8] He was fetched by Treev and Vox Machina to remove or transfer an enchantment from Retort, Anna Ripley's former gun. He identified the nature of the enchantment as a type of scrying enchantment and removed it. He then, for an additional fee, identified Vex'ahlia's mystery tea set as a Tea Set of Envenoming.
Call of the Netherdeep[]
As of 836 PD, Khime, despite not working for Allegiance of Allsight, keeps records of everything salvaged from Cael Morrow. When Prolix Yusaf believes someone has planted a Ring of Red Fury in his belongings to frame him for an attack, he brings some adventuring associates to Khime to figure out where the ring might have come from so he can discover the identity of whoever is setting him up. Khime does have relevant records that, if properly investigated, point more or less directly to the guilty party: Lymmle Wist, an undercover member of the Sentinels of Memory who has infiltrated the Allegiance.[9]
Relationships[]
Treev[]
In 811 PD, Khime and Treev seemed to have a working relationship, with Khime being one of the enchanters Treev had contact with. Although Treev bore no ill will towards Khime, it seemed that Khime was nervous of Treev.
Prolix Yusaf[]
As of 836 PD, Khime is a friend of Prolix Yusaf of the Allegiance of Allsight.

Quotations[]
Trivia[]
- Liam jokingly compared Khime to a picture of Matt on a carousel.[10]
- Though there are several indications that the character who appears in "The Chase to Glintshore" (1x67) is the same person who appears in Call of the Netherdeep 25 years later—the paranoia, the proficiency with magic items, working at the Omnival Library—there are minor inconsistencies. In 811 PD, the person who met Vox Machina had a name rhyming with "time" and spelled "Kyme" in the closed captions (which were not always reliable at the time); there was no mention of his race.[11] The person who meets with Prolix and the Netherdeep adventuring party in 836 PD is an orc with a name spelled "Khime" and pronounced like "KEEM".[12] Despite these small differences, this article presumes they were intended to be the same person.
