Description[]

Appearance[]

In 836 PD (the Second Campaign), Kent was a middle-aged halfling with a thick chinbeard, shaved sides, and a black pompadour going to the back, very Keith Richards-esque. He wore a darkened studded leather vest and a billowing sleeved cloak, and had a lute strung over his shoulder. He had a small cart with a pony.[1]

Personality[]

Biography[]

Background[]

Kent was with Dr. Dranzel's troupe at the same time as Scanlan Shorthalt, before the latter left and eventually joined Vox Machina.

"Choose Their Adventure...Again!" (Sx81)[]

Sometime prior to 808 PD, Dr. Dranzel and his troupe, including Kent and a young and inexperienced Scanlan Shorthalt, were in the northern Shattered Teeth attending the local Musetide festival in a semi-canonical one-shot. Kent's teenaged son Bobby was visiting with him during this time, and joined Scanlan and others for an adventure on the island.

"A Musician's Nostalgia" (1x37)[]

Vox Machina encountered Dr. Dranzel's troupe for the first time in the Diamond Nest Tavern in Emon. Kent was playing lute in the band there, and Scanlan recognized him as one of his old companions from Dr. Dranzel's Spectacular Traveling Troupe. After their performance, Kent came over to talk to Scanlan, saying it was good to see him and it was like old times when they played together. He said that the Troupe had just finished up playing Emon for Winter's Crest. They'd made a good deal of money and were on their way out, figuring they'd finish up a few gigs.[2]

"Echoes of the Past" (1x38)[]

Dr. Dranzel told the party that the Troupe had learned of potential pickings in the abandoned house of a wealthy lord, but that Kent and Kaylie had been unable to get into the Cloudtop District to check it out, although they'd tried several times. Later, when the party confronted Dranzel about the missing chest holding their reward that had been delivered to Greyskull Keep, Kent was the person sent to fetch it, somewhat later also producing an additional satchel of gold he said he had been holding separately in case they got robbed.

"Omens" (1x39)[]

Kent approached the party outside Emon's stockade to tell them that Kaylie was being held inside, and Dr. Dranzel was inside as well trying to negotiate her release.

"Devoutness and Dicks" (2x107)[]

Kent met Beauregard as she was setting up the bar for Traveler Con, complaining about how the island didn't have any booze prepared. He stepped forward, introduced himself and pulled a sheet off the cart he had close by. The cart was filled with jugs of dark rum, and Beau was excited to have some good alcohol for the celebration. She asked him how he became a follower of the Traveler, and he explained that he came to one of his shows and really liked his music.[3]

Relationships[]

  • Former member of Dr. Dranzel's Spectacular Traveling Troupe
  • Current follower of the Traveler
  • Old companion of Scanlan Shorthalt
  • Semi-canonically, Bobby, his son born sometime prior to 793 PD.[4] Their relationship was not close, as Kent referred to himself as Bobby's "donor" rather than his father.[5]
