Kai is a half-elven teenage rogue and one of the campers attending Wildemount Wildlings. He is played by Aleks Le.
Description[]
Appearance[]
Kai is a young boy of wood elf ancestry, with white hair, blue eyes, a golden earring in his right ear, and a necklace with a blue crystal. He is 5′ 9″ tall.[4]
Personality[]
He is a very "chill" and fun person, rather carefree, although with troublemaker tendencies.[5]
Biography[]
Background[]
Kai was born in 828 PD; he became an orphan and was raised by bandits. That led to his eventual problems with the justice, which caused him to be sent to the Wildemount Wildlings camp in 844 PD, as part of a court-order rehabilitation plan.[6] He didn't make much progress gaining badges or improving himself, but he took an interest in Padmund Pondhop's project of creating a Mighty Nein-themed card game, so he helped him with that, becoming the illustrator of the project.[7]
"Welcome, Campers!" (WWx01)[]

By the end of the summer, both Kai and Padmund had ended up in the OLGA cabin (along with Jessep Nimblethorp and Sky) for not having earned a single badge at camp. However, on the last day, Veth Brenatto gave them one last chance, leaving them with Beauregard Lionett and Yasha Nydoorin to guide the four teenagers and help them earn at least one badge before the end of the day. Kai wasn't very focused at first, encouraging Padmund's comments about the card game instead, but later he paid attention to the conversation Beau and Yasha were having about wanting to become mothers.
Their first activity was to try to steal a pinecone from one of the veteran adventurers. Kai was the first one to participate, facing Beau; he tried to show off using his whip, but when the monk motivated him he ran towards her and very nimbly managed to steal the pinecone from her; shortly after, when Jessep failed to do the same, he gave her his pinecone to make her feel better. During Padmund's turn against Yasha the illustrator started drawing him, and that gave the wizard inspiration to summon his familiar, Archibald.[8] When they were done with the activity Padmund told the adults he required to spend some minutes submerged in water before continuing, but when he added that he also had to take a nap after that, and that he had a note from his mother, they didn't believe him (and Kai apologized because the note he had forged wasn't good enough). The rogue then focused on Archibald and let it hold his dagger; Beau noticed and confiscated the weapon, since the teenager wasn't supposed to have it, but promised him that if he succeeded in the next challenge she would teach him to use it. During the struggle they both noticed Kai using his whip again to swing while putting on a disguise, and they decided to pretend not to notice him to see what happened; the half-elf ended up hanging from it, and although Beau stared at him for a few seconds, she focused on distracting the other campers. In the end it was Kai the one distracting both her and her wife by screaming pretending to be hurt; they both let go of the rope to check on him; when they confirmed that he was fine, Beauregard, sulking, tripped him with her staff. The two women, however, were proud of the progress of the campers, and the monk particularly liked Kai, who was like a "Mini Beau", although when he heard it he commented he would prefer that she not call him that.
The third activity was "Hide and Seek", and it was decided that Yasha would be the one hiding. After counting, Padmund teamed up with Kai. He convinced him they should check the cabin in which the documents were kept; they found a window, and the young rogue grabbed Archibald and threw it towards the glass, successfully breaking it, but destroying the frog's physical form in the process. Padmund was angry about it at first, but Kai apologized and the wizard admitted that if he cast the spell again he would be able to bring Archibald back, perfectly healthy. Inside (after Padmund Mended the window) they found documents that, according to Kai, would help them improve the card game; they even found their own files, although they weren't very flattering.
"Into the Wilde" (WWx02)[]
Kai told his friend to take some of the files with them to improve the cards. When Sky and Jessep found them and explained what had happened, Padmund panicked and started to walk away, determined to return home rather than face a monster capable of defeating two legendary heroes; however, Kai convinced him to stay by mentioning that if they managed to defeat the pig, the wizard would be a hero too and could have his own commemorative card. They went to see Mishi, the Curfew Creature, and although Kai's disguise didn't fool her, he, using flattery and some bribery involving the promise of her own card in Padmund's game, convinced her to tell them where the pig was, and they went there. They found the area of the cabins covered in food (which Kai saw as meat), and although Padmund determined it wasn't what it looked like, he tried some and entered a maze, so his friends followed him. They tried to avoid traps, but at one point a flash of magical light left the wizard lost in his own memories, as the room started filling with lava; Kai and Sky used ropes to rescue the other campers, but since Padmund didn't react, the half-elf used his Ring of Jumping to rescue him. Padmund regained his senses and helped rescue Jessep, after which Kai hit him to completely free his mind from the influence of the food. They continued, and eventually found a stranger guarding the exit, but Padmund immediately disintegrated his form by hitting him with his staff.
They arrived to the Magic Meadow, finding it filled with strange monsters; Kai checked how dangerous they were by throwing a bell in their direction, which caused one of them to make it explode. They distracted a couple of shark-like guards, and convinced them to let them pass, but then decided to ran towards the shed nearby while avoiding the monsters; Kai managed to kill a demonic doll with a dagger. Sky opened the hatch, but when they were about to go in, a monster produced a psychic scream that knocked both Kai and Jessep unconscious.
"Wilde Out" (WWx03)[]
Sky healed Kai with a potion that she was able to find in the darkness only after Padmund lit his manuscript for his card game on fire; for that, the half-elf called his friend a hero. They walked until they found two doors, and one of them brought them to the waiting room of "Wok Wok". Taking the lead, Kai declared that they were the new assistants of Wok Wok, and they distracted people there enough to keep moving; when someone attacked them with fire, Kai reacted fast to move Padmund out of harm's way. They reached a giant kitchen in which they found Beau and Yasha, as well as Wok Wok, a giant pan-like monster. A battle ensued, and although Kai disguised as health inspector to intimidate their enemy, it still threatened them; since Wok Wok was a pan, the rogue used water to cool it down, weakining its heat, and when he was surrounded by grease-based elementals, Beau came to rescue him. Eventually Wok Wok was defeated, and Kai and Padmund joined their friends to kick their enemy's fallen form.
They were brought back to the camp by Mishi, and they told Veth and the other campers what had happened, causing them to receive a lot of praise. When Padmund threatened to sue the camp, Veth tried to bribe him, so Kai entered the negotiation, getting at least one benefit for each of the members of his group. The OLGA campers received their Friendship Badge (created following Sky's suggestion) and they were officially promoted to Threebelows; they also got a free reservation to attend camp the following summer. After the events of that day Yasha and Beau expressed interest in becoming Kai's foster family for as long as he needed a home, but he declined the offer.[9]
Relationships[]
Padmund Pondhop[]

Kai and Padmund are close because of the interest the former took in the latter's card game. The older teenager seems to appreciate working in the project, even drawing Padmund himself.[10] Although he takes advantage of their connection to convince the wizard to do things, such as sneaking in cabins with him, he also use that trust to encourage him and make him feel better.
Once Padmund convinced Kai to try mushrooms as a way to develop poison resistance, but it "wasn't a good experience".[11]
