The Iridon Bastion is a fort that was built in the Grey Valley as a way of keeping that dangerous region under surveillance. It was occupied by supporters of the Platinum Dragon.[1]
Description[]
The building is made of light stone with copper-colored edges, in striking contrast to the surrounding corrupted terrain. It has at least two towers.[2] It lies at the bottom of a chasm cleft through a large hill within the Valley.[3]
History[]
The Iridon Bastion was built before 843 PD in the Grey Valley as an extension of the temple of Bahamut and an early warning system against the demon incursions that were common in the area.[4]
If the sentient greatsword Graz'tchar can be trusted, at some point in or before 843 PD it ended up in the hands of a great warrior in a stronghold, possibly referring to the Iridon Bastion in which it was eventually found by Bells Hells, before changing hands again.[5]
Around the time of the apogee solstice of 843, a great demon incursion from the Abyss took place which led to a battle between the followers of the Platinum Dragon and the demons. Both sides suffered casualties, but the demons prevailed, slaying many mortals and defiling their corpses, locking the survivors in cages (later joined by Air Ashari scouts when they visited the area), and using the damaged fort as a base of operations.[6] After the fiendish forces were defeated by Bells Hells and Teven Klask, the two surviving followers of the Platinum Dragon, Uwon and Diedrich, gave a proper burial to their fallen comrades.[7] However, due to their vulnerable position after the demon attack, they decided to join the rescued Ashari, Teleporting with them to Zephrah and abandoning their ruined fort for the time being.[8]
