This unidentified man is one of the active Shadowhands of the Kryn Dynasty, and the father of Idrin Shadowstep.

Description[]

The Shadowhand seems to be a man dedicated to his job in the Kryn Dynasty,[3] who prefers to avoid conflicts but isn't afraid of an argument if someone disagrees with him.[4]

History[]

Backstory[]

This man was born or joined the Kryn Dynasty of Xhorhas and learned about consecution and about the Luxon, eventually becoming a Shadowhand, with his job involving treating people affected by the curse of ruin.[5] He got married to a powerful mage, and together they had a son, Idrin. As he grew up and became a teenager, their son started showing signs of having a consecuted soul, which his father recognized, but his wife dismissed it saying that the dreams Idrin had were just that, dreams. By then the Shadowhand and his wife had disagreements about their ideology, with the mage being convinced that the curse of ruin was actually just an excuse to convince people of orcish blood to go through consecution.[6]

Eventually, at some point before or during 839 PD, Idrin left Xhorhas, with his mother using magic on her husband to trick him, presumably to help their son move away from home.[7] As of 839 PD Idrin was back in Xhorhas trying to deal with his father and the lies about the curse of ruin.[8]

Idrin by Elaine Tipping

Official art of Idrin, his son, by Elaine Tipping.[art 1]

  • The fact that Idrin had to confirm that his father wasn't affected by the curse of ruin implies that his orcish blood comes from that side of the family.[9]
  • Since he is part of the Kryn Dynasty, knows how to identify a consecuted soul, and promotes consecution among other people, it is likely that he is consecuted himself.[10]
  • This is the second character identified as a Shadowhand after Essek Thelyss.
    • Based on the comments of Osysa, who mentioned him "and his Shadowhand ilk" while telling Idrin that his father had been lying to him and his people, it is assumed that he isn't the only active Shadowhand in the Dynasty as of 839 PD.[11]
  • He taught his son that if the reason for an argument hasn't caused actual harm, the best thing to do is just ignore it and not start the argument at all.[12]
