Honor's Last Stand is one of the Vestiges of Divergence. This massive, silvered shield bearing the crest of the Platinum Dragon never tarnishes. The metal is warm to the touch.[1] It first appeared on-stream in "Mirror and Key" (E4x03).

Properties[]

Dormant State[]

  • While holding the shield, the wielder has a +1 bonus to AC. This bonus is in addition to the shield’s normal bonus to AC.
  • The wielder is immune to the prone condition while bearing this shield.

Awakened State[]

  • The bonus to AC increases to a +2.
  • If the wielder successfully shoves a creature while holding this shield, that creature takes 2d6 force damage.[2]
  • Whenever a creature's attack against the wielder misses, they can use their reaction to immediately attempt to make a shove attack against that creature.

Exalted State[]

  • The bonus to AC increases to a +3.
  • When the wielder successfully shoves a creature while holding this shield, they can move it up to 15 feet away from them.[2]
  • Using a bonus action, the wielder can protect an ally within 5 feet of them, imparting +3 to the ally's AC until the beginning of the wielder's next turn, or until ally is no longer within 5 feet of the wielder.

History[]

Honor's Last Stand was wielded during the Calamity by Cor, paladin of the Order of the Last Banner.[3] She took it with her after the fall of Seagate, when she traveled to Gwessar with her son, Erro; however, when the latter was around 11, Cor died from a sickness in their new home, and he left with Skoll, a friend of the family, losing track of his mother's shield.[4]

It ended up as one of several Vestiges of Divergence and other precious treasures secreted away in the Moonweaver's hidden cache in the Stormpoint Mountains. Erro and his traveling party were led there days before the Divergence, and Erro, surprised by his recognition of the shield, took it with him.[5] A few days later, while fighting against several devils, Honor's Last Stand entered its Awakened state.[6]

The shield entered its Exalted State as Erro rushed into battle against Lord Callister and a number of devils.[7] After Erro fell in battle defending his friends in the crumbling chapel of the Moonweaver, Garen honored his memory with a statue of his friend surreptitiously placed in the reconstructed Temple of the Moonweaver, using the Fabricate spell to incorporate Honor's Last Stand into it, "so that it cannot be easily taken, but only given under the sight of whatever god, the Moonweaver likely, sees whoever's fit to wield it again."[8]
