Hondir is a hunched, crotchety-looking goblin with a jet-black Van Dyke beard reaching a gray point at the bottom. When Bells Hells met him, he was wearing a large monocle in one eye with a dangling chain attached to a lapel pin, and a nice but dust-covered and tattered jacket. They got the impression he was either trying to dress above his station, or wasn't from Bassuras.[1]

His time as a fugitive along with the Calloways made him more confident, and he enjoyed driving crawlers.[2]

Biography[]

Background[]

Hondir is a researcher doing similar work to the Calloways, but within a much larger network of individuals. He recently got into some kind of trouble and is laying low in a hideout near one of the Bassuras city cisterns.[3] He is a graduate of the Aydinlan Seminary in Yios.[4]

"Dark Portents" (3x29)[]

When Birdie brought Bells Hells with her while she was in Bassuras, Hondir was initially very suspicious and paranoid that she had been followed. He eventually allowed them to enter but warned them that everything was rigged to explode. They could see that there were a number of crossbows aimed at the trapdoor entry that could be fired from a central chair, at least 12 sticks of dynamite hidden around the room, and he held a triggering device. He first asked them about their religious beliefs and was assured that they pretty much had none, which he seemed to find reassuring.

Birdie and Hondir explained that the ley lines crossing Exandria seem to be shifting, a sign of an impending, incredibly powerful Apogee Solstice. The solstices strengthen the nexuses of the ley lines even further than normal, and the recent shifts point to the Hellcatch Valley being a powerful center during the upcoming one. Hondir is a member of Grim Verity, a group of scientists researching this, and he knew the Lumas twins. He also knew of the Gray Assassins sent to kill the twins, who have removed at least half of their members. He did not know, however, why Keyleth had also been attacked.[5]

Hondir also hesitantly shared that a Grim Verity member in Vasselheim discovered ancient texts beneath the temple of Erathis from as far back as The Founding. This drew the ire of the powerful temples there, since they indicated that Ruidus did not always exist but came later, and further referred to two gods that no longer exist in the Pantheon. Grim Verity theorized that the appearance of Ruidus was connected to the disappearance of the gods. The ancient texts are currently secretly with Grim Verity members in Yios.[6]

Hondir also slightly knew Liliana Temult, Imogen's mother, about twelve years ago in Yios where she was a volunteer in Grim Verity's research into Ruidusborn and their psychic abilities.[7]

As Bells Hells were leaving, Hondir asked if he could leave town with them, since he felt unsafe now in Bassuras, and they agreed.[8]

"Axiom Shaken" (3x43)[]

Baryn Vestisho revealed that Judicators searching for the Grim Verity had, some weeks back, destroyed Hondir's home.[9]

"Embattled in Bassuras" (3x70)[]

After the apogee solstice Bells Hells stayed shortly in the now-abandoned house of Hondir.

"Fractures" (3x78) and "To Hurt Is to Heal" (3x79)[]

After Ollie's Squint warned him about the Layaway being about to be under siege, soon before the beginning of the solstice, the couple and Hondir left and buried the place so it wouldn't be found and scavenged. They went to the nearest fey portal, and managed to reach Ligament Manor, but Hondir preferred to go to Aeshanadoor instead with one of the crawlers, with the intention of reuniting with the Grim Verity.[10]
