Predathos by @zhellers

Fan art of Imogen Temult floating before Predathos, shortly before inflicting upon it the highest recorded damage in a single attack and in a single turn, by @zhellers.[art 1]

Highest damage is the greatest amount of damage inflicted by a player character during combat in a Critical Role stream. For the purposes of this article, inclusion is restricted to attacks targeting one creature at a time, either by an attack roll or by forcing only a single creature to make a saving throw.

The current overall record for highest damage in a single turn is held by Imogen Temult, whose transmuted Meteor Swarm inflicted as much as 1,111 damage on Predathos in "The Red End" (3x120). Percival de Rolo holds the record for highest damage in a single turn in a Campaign 1 episode with 172 points in "Umbrasyl" (1x55), and the Campaign 1 record for highest damage in a single attack is held by Vax'ildan, who inflicted 109 points in "The Climb Within" (1x110). Records for Campaign 2 are held by Fjord for highest damage in a single turn with 118 points and by Jester Lavorre for highest damage in a single attack with 106 points, both set in "Malice and Mystery Below" (2x119).

In a single turn[]

For the purposes of this list, a turn is defined as a turn taken on the character's initiative count or a reaction such as an opportunity attack or a held action. To qualify, attacks must target a single creature at a time, either by making an attack roll or by forcing only one creature to make a saving throw; turns that damage multiple creatures in this manner are included. Inclusion in this list requires a minimum of 100 points of total damage, including all additives such as Sneak Attack and Divine Smite that are calculated and applied at the time of the turn. Due to this, Hemorrhaging Critical is not counted in the total, even though it is calculated during a turn, as the damage is applied outside of the turn at the end of the target's next turn; the amount sustained from it is noted.

The current overall record is held by Imogen Temult, set in "The Red End" (3x120) during the 6th round of the fight against Predathos. Imogen's Meteor Swarm dealt as much as 1,111 damage. The spell directly dealt 234 damage to two of the three hands, 117 to the third hand, and 234 to the head. Matt Mercer had described the head taking half the damage the hands were dealt.[1] According to the Omen Archive website, it was officially confirmed that this was additional damage to the head, not transferring half the damage.[2] The sum of half the damage (rounding down) from all hands is 292, so total damage to the head (the main target, though it was all part of one creature) was 526 damage in one round. If the full 292 damage was dealt to the head, that would bring the total to 1,111. If the hands could only transfer their max hp/2, then this number gets reduced.

Percival de Rolo holds the current record for highest damage in a single turn in a Campaign One episode with 172 points in "Umbrasyl" (1x55). Fjord holds the current record for highest damage in a turn in a Campaign Two episode with 118 points in "Malice and Mystery Below" (2x119).

Contrary to common belief and statement made in "The Search For Grog" (Sx42), Arkhan never held the record of highest damage in a single turn in a Critical Role production as the record at the time was set by Percy 37 points higher in "Umbrasyl" (1x55). However, Arkhan is one of only two guest player characters to deal triple digits of damage in a turn under these parameters, the other being Prism Grimpoppy in "Somewhere Out There" (3x59).

Rank Attacker Total Episode Details
1 Imogen Temult Up to 1,111 "The Red End" (3x120) Using the Ring of Remembrance, cast Meteor Swarm and used Transmuted Spell metamagic to change the fire damage to thunder damage, to which Predathos was vulnerable. Simultaneously and separately dealt 74 bludgeoning and 80 (doubled to 160) thunder damage to the head of Predathos and to three of its appendages, only one of which succeeded on its saving throw.[3]
2 Imogen Temult Up to 351 "The Red End" (3x120) 8th-level Lightning Bolt, transmuted into thunder damage (to which Predathos was vulnerable), dealing 48 (doubled to 96) damage separately to three parts of Predathos; Predathos used two legendary resistances but still took full damage to one of its appendages, for a total of 192 damage. Followed up with two strikes by Blade of Disaster: a regular hit dealing 28 force damage and a critical hit dealing 59 damage.[4]
3 Imogen Temult Up to 301 "The Red End" (3x120) Two strikes on Predathos's limbs by Blade of Disaster dealing 24 and 9 force damage, followed by a 6th-level Lightning Bolt, transmuted into thunder damage (to which Predathos was vulnerable), dealing 42 (doubled to 84) damage separately to two limbs of Predathos that both failed their saving throws, for a total of 168 damage. Half the damage of each hit was additionally dealt to the head.[5]

5 Percy de Rolo 172 "Umbrasyl" (1x55) Six hits total with the Dragon Slayer Longsword: two hits and a critical hit, then Action Surge for another two hits and a critical hit. Because the target, Umbrasyl, was a dragon, the sword dealt an additional 3d6 damage per hit.[7]

In a single attack[]

For the purposes of this list, an attack is defined as one attack roll or forcing only one creature to make a saving throw. Inclusion in this list requires a minimum of 75 points of total damage, including all additives such as Sneak Attack and Divine Smite that are calculated and applied at the time of the attack. Due to this, Hemorrhaging Critical is not counted in the total, even though it is calculated during an attack, as the damage is applied outside of the attack at the end of the target's next turn; the amount sustained from it is noted.

The current overall record is held by Imogen Temult, set in "The Red End" (3x120) at up to 1,111 points. The record for highest damage in a single attack in a regular Campaign 2 episode is held by Jester Lavorre with 106 points in "Malice and Mystery Below" (2x119); Vax'ildan holds the record for a Campaign 1 episode in "The Climb Within" (1x110) at 109 points.
