Hawk's Hill was a town in Gwessar that had contact with Aeor and acted as a way station during the first century of the Calamity.
Description[]
Hawk's Hill was a village built between two craggy ridges, consisting of tents and shacks. The only element with an advanced appearance was a landing pad bearing the sigil of Aeor.[1]
Points of interest[]
- Aeorian landing pad
Society[]
Most of the villagers were people who resided there in the hope of being accepted as refugees by Aeor, and in the meantime the settlement was maintained to receive the city's ships and supply them with food and materials. Rangers were often seen in the area, as their skills helped Hawk's Hill prosper.[2]
Notable people[]
- Madeen and Sherané, two followers of Asha[3]
- Unnamed family of gnomes, including an aunt who worshiped the Dawnfather[4]
- Ridge, a mature centaur ranger, companion of Trist's family and Ayden[5]
- Barahai, a dwarven blacksmith, companion of Trist's family and Ayden[6]
History[]
This makeshift town was established in Gwessar during the first century after the onset of the Calamity. Initially there was no hope that the settlement would last long, so no effort was made to build houses with resistant materials; to everyone's surprise Hawk's Hill endured for decades, and so did its tents and shacks.[7] During this period of time the flying city of Aeor would send ships to the town to obtain supplies, and established a system of emblems of sanctuary, by which those locals who could contribute something to Aeor and/or had been asking for asylum for a long time would be taken there[8] (as long as they did not contradict the philosophies of the magocracy).[9]
On the eve of the fall of Aeor, during the visit of one of its ships, there were rumors in Hawk's Hill that scouts sent to a fallen settlement in the area, Highgrove, had not returned;[10] furthermore, there was also a general concern about the number of hungry people asking for help, and an apparent passing cleric, Ayden, used Create Food and Water to alleviate some of that suffering before going to Aeor with his companions.[11] There was a growing sense in the settlement that the ship from Aeor that was to arrive that day might be the last.[12] That same day an army of devils sent by Asmodeus attacked the town and started burning tents and killing people, being faced by the few warriors present there, including Purvan Suul. As one of the fiends tried to attack Haylie and Topher (the half-firbolg children of Trist, avatar of the Everlight), a sending stone shot by their mother across the sea obliterated the creature, saving the children's lives and encouraging them to use their demigod powers to repel the army of devils.[13]
Trivia[]
- Although not confirmed, the name of this town might be a reference to Cerrit Agrupnin, the only survivor of the Ring of Brass in Exandria Unlimited: Calamity, since he was an eisfuura who traveled to Gwessar to meet his family there when the Calamity started (previous to the foundation of Hawk's Hill).
- It is near a place known as Salt River.[14]
