Hatemonger[2] was a gargantuan amorphous creature, with weirdly shifting skin and tendon-like flesh. From its moist, glistening body, multiple mouths with teeth emerged occasionally, along with half-formed faces and limbs like those of the creatures around it. The mouths produced crying and baying sounds like other various predatory creatures. It had tendril-like tentacles that could grab, pull, and grapple its prey before consuming it. Its movement was described as "slopping" forward.[3]
Abilities[]
Those within 5 feet of Hatemonger at the beginning of their turns took psychic damage from the sounds produced by its mouths. The creature had a multiattack of one bite dealing piercing damage and one constrict doing bludgeoning and slashing damage. The target was then grappled. It had legendary resistances and actions which it utilized for a chew attack doing between 19-25 points of piercing damage, a miasma attack producing a 30-foot cone of corruption that did 12 points of necrotic damage and reduced the target's hit points until after a long rest (halved and no hit point reduction on a successful Constitution save against a DC of between 9 and 17), and a Consume attack which both hit for damage and swallowed the target.
Hatemonger had less than 226 hit points, an AC between 15[4] and 17, and +11 to hit[5] on its attacks.
History[]
Bells Hells encountered Hatemonger nesting in the ceiling of Ludinus Da'leth's abandoned Gildhollow Tower in the ruins of the corrupted city of Molaesmyr. During the ensuing battle, the creature swallowed an unconscious Fearne Calloway, but F.R.I.D.A. was able to pull her out of its mouth and she was revived before she could succumb to her injuries. Later, Hatemonger swallowed Imogen Temult, but she was freed when Fearne succeeded in killing it.[6]
When the creature died, a new creature emerged from the corpse of the old. It was more humanoid-shaped than the amorphous original, but had elongated limbs with hooks that were a mix of thorny and toothlike, a hard skin of thorny bark, and a crown of tendrils with what looked like thorns and moss.[7]
