Grenya Lorelei was a noblewoman and a member of the Lorelei family. She was mentioned by Liam O'Brien in "Liam's One Shot: 'Song of the Lorelei'" (Sx36).

Biography[]

At some point in or after 546 PD,[1][2] after becoming a werewolf at the end of the Marrow War, Alfarr Lorelei fathered Grenya, who was born with lycanthropy due to his condition. She fought the curse as well, and so did her sons, and futher generations. Early on the family considered lycanthropy a curse, but gradually younger generations saw it as a gift to be wielded responsibly. They created a ritual known as "The Taming" to help control the inner beast and used it to help the family.[3]

When Grenya died, she was buried in the Lorelei mausoleum, where a small monument was built for her, near the one for Alfarr.[4]

Appearances and mentions[]

Trivia[]

  • Her name seems to be a variant of Granya, the Anglicised version of Gráinne, which in turn could derive from the Scottish Gaelic term grian (sun).
  • She was the first member of her family being born as a werewolf.
  • Since Grenya's father, Alfarr, was a contemporary of Trence Orman (the discoverer of hemocraft) and both were on opposing sides of the Marrow War, it is quite possible that the First Wolf's daughter did not have access to that magical discipline to dominate her lycanthropy, having to control her lupine side in another way.
  • During the attack to Castle Lorelei by a drow soldier and some criminals from Deastok several corpses of members of House Lorelei were reanimated, with some of them being destroyed while the others runned away to the Cyrengreen Forest.[5][6] However, Grenya's body remained in her monument, away from the magical censers that caused the undead to rise from their tombs.[7]
