Godard Halovar is the father of Wicander Halovar and the son of Photarch Yanessa Halovar. As an NPC, he is played by Brennan Lee Mulligan.

Description[]

Godard is an enormous, powerful man with a white beard and white hair worn in a long ponytail with a white ribbon tied around it. His back appears unnaturally curved and very large,[4] hiding large, white, eagle-like wings.[1] The only piece of black on him is a black blindfold that he always wears,[5] hiding lidless and extremely radiant eyes.[6]

Biography[]

Background[]

He was conceived through a Wish spell his mother, Yanessa, cast using the celestial blood of the angel Aetheon, making Godard a half-angel child;[7] growing up he had to hide some of his most unsettling traits inherited from his father, some of which he used to help his family deal with Aetheon by accessing the contraption in which he was kept.[1] Godard got married to Iris, with whom he had three children.[8]

Campaign Four: Overture[]

Prior to the execution of Thjazi Fang, Godard's son Wicander Halovar approached him about the possibility of sparing Thjazi's life in order to win popularity for their family and the Candescent Creed among the populace. Although Wicander believed his proposal had been accepted, at the execution he learned that his grandmother had overruled it and Thjazi had to die. Godard placed a "massive" hand on his son's shoulder, telling him, "There are important lessons you will learn in the nights and days to come."[9]

The next day, Godard, blindfolded as always and accompanied by his aspirant Enmity, came at the Photarch's request to escort Wicander and Tyranny into the hidden depths of the family home, the Villa Aurora. Enmity told him: "My lord Wicander, your father is gleeful and merry beyond measure to show you the inner workings of the Prismatic Retort." In a hidden and magically warded room holding a 40-foot tall stone container with glowing threads emanating from it, Godard walked over and twisted the fibrous tubes to tighten them up despite his hands smoking. When Yanessa told him to open the retort, Godard removed his blindfold and bright beams of light emerged from his lidless eyes that funneled into its base, causing it to open and reveal a pinioned, captive feral celestial being siphoned of its blood.[10] Later, while Lady Yanessa was revealing the truth about her family to Wick, the latter's father asked her permission to reveal his own wings, feeling relief when he was able to stretch them.[1]

Trivia[]

  • His name is composed by the Old High German terms got (god) and harti (hard/strong).[11]
  • Having a celestial as a father he could be an aasimar. The strange shape of his back is actually hiding two naked wings that only manifest radiant feathers once he frees them.[1]
  • Sir Filoneus Halovar is either his brother or half-brother,[12] When Yanessa described how Godard was conceived she didn't mention Filoneus as being connected to Aetheon, but Sam does refer to him as his (Wick's) father's brother.[13]
