Githzerai are one of the offshoot races of the gith, who were once enslaved by the mind flayers. The gith eventually escaped enslavement and divided into two different races: the githyanki and the githzerai. The githzerai dwell primarily in Limbo and pursue more spiritual and enlightened paths than the githyanki.[3][4] Through the use of psychic capabilities, they can manipulate matter on the plane of Limbo.[5] Some members of this race are sent as ambassadors to other planes, bringing with them "pockets" of their homeplane and using them to create locations, mainly meant for transport; those missions are led by the anarch, powerful and wise members of their communities with impressive psionic capabilities.[6]

Centuries ago an unknown object holding a githzerai plunged through the Exandrian atmosphere and impacted the Serratus Wilderness in Issylra. The impact left a depression in the ground where many flowers eventually grew, completely covering the debris below. The corpse of a githyanki was petrified there and covered by vegetation over the years until 843 PD, when during the apogee solstice, Bells Hells found the crater on their way to the Irriam Canyon. They uncovered the gith skeleton and took its only valuable possession, a Ring of Volcanic Flesh.[7]

Appearance[]

Githzerai have yellow skin and pointed ears and chins. The head is slightly elongated at the back of the skull.[8] Their skeletons bear some resemblance to those of people of elven lineage.[9]
